Psalm 30:4, 5
“Sing the praises of the LORD, you his faithful people;
praise his holy name.
For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime;
weeping may stay for the night,
but rejoicing comes in the morning.”
(NIV)

Psalm 10
“Hear, LORD, and be merciful to me;
LORD, be my help.”
(NIV)

God’s anger toward those who love him is time-limited. His favor is timeless.

Knowing these twin truths empowers us to live in purposeful freedom and joyful anticipation.

Why does God get angry?

His anger is kindled by the harm we do to ourselves and others. His anger is corrective more than punitive. It turns gripes, complaints, and insults into songs of praise.

God’s anger redirects us. It reshapes us. It repairs us. It gets us moving in the right direction.

God’s anger is a tool of his grace and mercy. It is one of his best gifts.

God’s anger and his correction wound us temporarily to bring us joy now and forever.

God’s anger is measured in hours. His favor is measured in measureless existence.

God’s anger turns wailing into dancing.

God’s anger clothes us with joy. (See verse 11.)

God’s anger lifts our voices in praise.

God’s anger leads to eternal worship. (See verse 12.)

I will welcome God’s anger knowing he intends it for my good and for his glory.

Our Father, your anger is righteous and kind. It redirects. It renews. It is a mercy. Your favor lasts forever and is completely undeserved. Thank you for correcting me and redirecting me. Thank you for the joy that flows from these temporary woes. Amen.

“ ‘In the pride of your heart
you say, “I am a god;
I sit on the throne of a god
in the heart of the seas.”
But you are a mere mortal and not a god,
though you think you are as wise as a god.”

for you are my God;
may your good Spirit
lead me on level ground.”

Ezekiel 11:19, 20 “I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh. Then they will follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. They will be my people, and I will be their God.”

Daily D – Ezekiel 7:27

Ezekiel 7:27
The king will mourn,
the prince will be clothed with despair,
and the hands of the people of the land will tremble.
I will deal with them according to their conduct,
and by their own standards I will judge them.
 ‘Then they will know that I am the LORD.’ ”
