John 21:19  Jesus said this to let him know by what kind of death he would glorify God. Then Jesus told him, “Follow me.” (NLT)

Mark 1:16-18  One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” (NLT)

Do over.

Begin again more intelligently.

Move from competence to mastery.

And, as one of my favorite leadership books says, go Beyond High Performance.

The Apostle Peter understood these ideas. He helps us understand these ideas. No one stated more spectacularly brilliant insights about Jesus. No one put his foot in his mouth like Peter. No one denied Jesus like Peter.

The Gospels show us Peter at his best and at his worst. And Jesus’ last recorded words to him? They were the same as his first.

“Follow me.”

If you are tempted to think you have arrived and couldn’t possibly get more spiritual and Christlike, remember Peter.

If you are tempted to think you are beyond redemption, remember Peter.

Jesus’ first words to you and his next words to you are the same as they were to Peter.

“Follow me.”

Peter followed Jesus all over the region around Galilee and Judea. He alone followed Jesus on the water. He declared that he would follow him anywhere, even to his death. Let’s just say there were some sinking spells and stumbles between his brash declaration and his later death on a cross like Jesus, but upside down because he did not consider himself worthy to die like his Savior, and maybe so that his last look was toward the heavens where he had seen Jesus ascend.

No matter how far you’ve fallen, no matter how rotten is your core, no matter how beyond redemption you feel, Jesus is still saying to your heart, “Follow me.”

Go beyond all your false starts and failures. Join Jesus on his journey. Become who you might have been if you had started with him earlier. Now is the best time to begin.

I will follow Jesus.

Our Father, show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul. Amen.

Daily D – Psalm 113:3

Psalm 113:3 From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets,
the name of the LORD is to be praised.

Daily D – Psalm 112:4-5

Psalm 112:4, 5
Even in darkness light dawns for the upright,
for those who are gracious and compassionate and righteous.
Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely,
who conduct their affairs with justice.

Daily D – Isaiah 6:1-7

Isaiah 6:1-7 “In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying.

And they were calling to one another:

“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty;
the whole earth is full of his glory.”

At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.

“Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty.”

Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”

Daily D – Isaiah 1:18

Isaiah 1:18
“Come now, let us settle the matter,”
says the LORD.
“Though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red as crimson,
they shall be like wool.”

Daily D – 2 Kings 25:27-30

2 Kings 25:27-30 In the thirty-seventh year of the exile of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the year Awel-Marduk became king of Babylon, he released Jehoiachin king of Judah from prison. He did this on the twenty-seventh day of the twelfth month. He spoke kindly to him and gave him a seat of honor higher than those of the other kings who were with him in Babylon. So Jehoiachin put aside his prison clothes and for the rest of his life ate regularly at the king’s table. Day by day the king gave Jehoiachin a regular allowance as long as he lived.
