John 1:14  So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son. (New Living Translation)

16, 17  From his abundance we have all received one gracious blessing after another. For the law was given through Moses, but God’s unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ.

2:5  But his mother told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”

“Now dip some out, and take it to the master of ceremonies.” So the servants followed his instructions.

I have been highlighting in purple Bible verses and passages that declare the attributes of God. These attributes tell us the nature and character of God. The most highlighted attributes in the Old Testament are the same ones we see here: unfailing love and faithfulness.

God’s love never fails. He is always faithful to his cause of wooing us into a deep and abiding relationship with himself. Here in John’s Gospel, we see Jesus embodying these attributes.

Have you ever sung a song in church about God’s unfailing love? Good News: It’s true.

One aspect of his unfailing love is how utterly trustworthy it is. When Jesus tells people to do something, things always work out for the best when they do. Chapter two in this Gospel gives us a prime example.

Mary tells Jesus the wine supply has run out. Jesus says, “My time has not yet come.” Mary says to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”

This is wisdom and truth. Jesus always does what is right. Trust his heart.

Jesus gave instructions for what to do next. “So the servants followed his instructions.” Results? Best wine ever.

What have we learned here today?
1. God is love.
2. His love never fails.
3. His instructions come from his loving heart, are expressed in loving concern, and produce better results by far than anything we could ourselves.

Mary teaches us how to love Jesus like she did. She knew him for who he really was. She had seen every wonderful day of his life unfold in increasing beauty and wonder. She learned the most important truth for living a full and meaningful life. She said, “Do whatever he tells you.” That’s where transformation begins. That’s where miracles begin.

This is a good day to see Jesus for who he is, and to do whatever he tells you. Know that he is motivated by his perfect, never-failing love. Understand that our obedience is empowered by his loving heart and hand to accomplish his eternal purpose in us and through us.

What is Jesus telling you to do today?

I will do whatever Jesus tells me.

Our Father, everything about you declares your unfailing love. We never have to worry about you running out of love. Your instructions become blessings to us and others when we say Yes to whatever you ask. Empower us to lay aside our fears and to trust your heart, no matter what you ask. Amen.

Daily D – Genesis 46:1-4

Genesis 46:1-4 So Israel set out with all that was his, and when he reached Beersheba, he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.

And God spoke to Israel in a vision at night and said, “Jacob! Jacob!”

“Here I am,” he replied.

“I am God, the God of your father,” he said. “Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you into a great nation there. I will go down to Egypt with you, and I will surely bring you back again. And Joseph’s own hand will close your eyes.”

Daily D – Genesis 45:4-8

Genesis 45:4-8 Then Joseph said to his brothers, “Come close to me.” When they had done so, he said, “I am your brother Joseph, the one you sold into Egypt! And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you. For two years now there has been famine in the land, and for the next five years there will be no plowing and reaping. But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance.

“So then, it was not you who sent me here, but God. He made me father to Pharaoh, Lord of his entire household and ruler of all Egypt.”

Daily D – Genesis 41:1

Genesis 41:1 “When two full years had passed, Pharaoh had a dream: He was standing by the Nile,”

Daily D – Genesis 39:2-6

Genesis 39:2-6 Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt. Potiphar, an Egyptian who was one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain of the guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him there. The Lord was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. When his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord gave him success in everything he did, Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household, and he entrusted to his care everything he owned. From the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the Lord blessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph. The blessing of the Lord was on everything Potiphar had, both in the house and in the field. So Potiphar left everything he had in Joseph’s care; with Joseph in charge, he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate.

Daily D – Genesis 35:27-29

Genesis 35:27-29 Jacob came home to his father Isaac in Mamre, near Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac had stayed. Isaac lived a hundred and eighty years. Then he breathed his last and died and was gathered to his people, old and full of years. And his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
