1 Chronicles 18:14
So David reigned over all Israel and did what was just and right for all his people.(NLT)

Thus David ruled over all of Israel. He ruled well, fair and evenhanded in all his duties and relationships.
(The Message)

Where, O where, can we find government officials who can be described like King David?

Since Election Year is a couple of years away, now is a good time to pray for leaders who are just. This means they are law-abiding and law-enforcing. They understand the constraints placed upon them as well as the constraints placed upon others.

Let us pray for leaders who are likewise righteous. This means they do the right thing the right way for the right reason in the right timing.

The Message paraphrases these ideas as “fair and evenhanded.”

We can pray the same way about those who serve now. We can pray this way about local, state, and federal officials. The Apostle Paul gives us this instruction:

I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.” (1 Timothy‬ ‭2‬:‭1‬-‭4‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

One idea to shape our prayers for appointed and elected officials is to ask God to give us the leaders we need, not those we deserve. We might also be so bold as to ask for the leaders we need instead of those we prefer. God knows the hearts and minds of candidates better than we do.

This is a big issue. We need to pray about it now and repeat it often. For years, I have included this kind of praying in my prayer list. It comes up each week on a particular day. You might consider a similar plan.

We need more officials God wants for us who will lead according to his plans and purpose.

I will pray for the elected and appointed officials we have and those to come.

Our Father, bless us with the leaders we need. Deliver us from those who refuse to align their hearts, minds, and allegiances to you. Bless us with peace-seeking leaders who help make it possible for us to live safe and peaceful lives. Amen.

Daily D – Psalm 113:3

Psalm 113:3 From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets,
the name of the LORD is to be praised.

Daily D – Psalm 112:4-5

Psalm 112:4, 5
Even in darkness light dawns for the upright,
for those who are gracious and compassionate and righteous.
Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely,
who conduct their affairs with justice.

Daily D – Isaiah 6:1-7

Isaiah 6:1-7 “In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying.

And they were calling to one another:

“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty;
the whole earth is full of his glory.”

At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.

“Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty.”

Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”

Daily D – Isaiah 1:18

Isaiah 1:18
“Come now, let us settle the matter,”
says the LORD.
“Though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red as crimson,
they shall be like wool.”

Daily D – 2 Kings 25:27-30

2 Kings 25:27-30 In the thirty-seventh year of the exile of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the year Awel-Marduk became king of Babylon, he released Jehoiachin king of Judah from prison. He did this on the twenty-seventh day of the twelfth month. He spoke kindly to him and gave him a seat of honor higher than those of the other kings who were with him in Babylon. So Jehoiachin put aside his prison clothes and for the rest of his life ate regularly at the king’s table. Day by day the king gave Jehoiachin a regular allowance as long as he lived.
