James 4:6
But he gives greater grace. Therefore he says: God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. (CSB)

And he gives grace generously. As the Scriptures say, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” (NLT)

Our extravagant Heavenly Father gives grace generously. His grace is greater than all our sin.

The old hymn is worth revisiting:

Marvelous grace of our loving Lord,
Grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt!
Yonder on Calvary’s mount out-poured–
There where the blood of the Lamb was spilt.

Marvelous, infinite, matchless grace,
Freely bestowed on all who believe!
All who are longing to see His face,
Will you this moment His grace receive?

Grace, grace, God’s grace,
Grace that will pardon and cleanse within;
Grace, grace, God’s grace,
Grace that is greater than all our sin!

(Marvelous grace of our loving Lord
Author: Julia H. Johnston (1910)
Tune: MOODY [Towner])

Respectable sinners and their black-hearted cousins can each find grace to cover their pasts, to wash them clean, and to secure their eternity. God can take your very badness and turn it into merry gladness. Repentance provides the soul renovation we desperately require, and God freely gives.

God is better than you imagine, kinder than you dare believe, and more full of grace than the worst of sinners could exhaust.

Christmas and Easter are bookends of one story. This story empowers every other story that is filled with joy and leads to a truly happy ending.

Today is a good day to enjoy amazing grace for the first time or the next time. Receive it with gratitude. Pass it along with delight. There’s more where that comes from.

I will live in the riches of God’s marvelous, infinite, matchless grace.

Our Father, thank you for grace so amazing, grace that is greater than all my sin. Amen.

Daily D – John 6:47-51

John 6:47-51 “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes has eternal life. Yes, I am the bread of life! Your ancestors ate manna in the wilderness, but they all died. Anyone who eats the bread from heaven, however, will never die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever; and this bread, which I will offer so the world may live, is my flesh.”

Daily D – Matthew 21:43-44

Matthew 21:43, 44 “I tell you, the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nation that will produce the proper fruit. Anyone who stumbles over that stone will be broken to pieces, and it will crush anyone it falls on.”

Daily D – Matthew 21:12-15

Matthew 21:12-15 Jesus entered the Temple and began to drive out all the people buying and selling animals for sacrifice. He knocked over the tables of the money changers and the chairs of those selling doves. He said to them, “The Scriptures declare, ‘My Temple will be called a house of prayer,’ but you have turned it into a den of thieves!”

The blind and the lame came to him in the Temple, and he healed them. The leading priests and the teachers of religious law saw these wonderful miracles and heard even the children in the Temple shouting, “Praise God for the Son of David.”

But the leaders were indignant.

Daily D – Matthew 23:37

Matthew 23:37 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones God’s messengers! How often I have wanted to gather your children together as a hen protects her chicks beneath her wings, but you wouldn’t let me.”

Daily D – 1 Kings 22:4-5

1 Kings 22:4, 5 Then he turned to Jehoshaphat and asked, “Will you join me in battle to recover Ramoth-gilead?” Jehoshaphat replied to the king of Israel, “Why, of course! You and I are as one. My troops are your troops, and my horses are your horses.” Then Jehoshaphat added, “But first let’s find out what the Lord says.”
