Daily D – Acts 11:17
Acts 11:17 And since God gave these Gentiles the same gift he gave us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to stand in God’s way?” (NLT)
—
Three life lessons:
1. Get out of God’s way.
2. Stay out of God’s way.
3. Join God on The Way.
The Apostle Paul was in God’s way (Acts 9).
The Apostle Peter was in God’s way (Acts 10).
They both got out of the way and joined God on The Way (Acts 11 and beyond).
Where do you stand along The Way today?
Adam and Eve knew The Way and walked with God in it until they didn’t (Genesis 3).
Enoch walked “in close fellowship with God” along The Way and took The Way all The Way to God’s home (Genesis 5:21-24).
Noah “walked in close fellowship with God” along The Way all the way onto the ark. Then God had to tell him to get off the boat and back on The Way (Genesis 8:15-19).
Abraham started on The Way, stopped along The Way, and had to be restarted on The Way, wandered out of The Way, and was returned to The Way (Genesis 12:1-3; 19, 20). Then God said, “I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless,” (17:1). This is The Way to live the most blessed life.
Joseph was shown the end of The Way before the beginning and arrived at that end of The Way the hard way (Genesis 37-50).
Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me,” (John 14:6).
One of the earliest titles for Christians in the Book of Acts is The Way (9:2; 19:9, 23; 22:4; 24:14, 22).
A good daily assessment of our discipleship, of how closely we walk with God and before him, is found in rephrasing the three statements above:
1. Am I in God’s way?
2. When and how do I most often get in God’s way?
3. Am I walking with God in The Way now?
This is a good day to walk in The Way.
This is a good day to know The Way, go The Way, and show The Way.
—
I will walk in The Way all along The Way until I come face to face with The Way, The Truth, and The Life.
—
Our Father, show me The Way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul (Psalm 143:8). This is my daily prayer. This is my deepest desire. This is my path and my destiny. Amen.
