Psalm 40:7, 8
Then I said, “Look, I have come.
As is written about me in the Scriptures:
I take joy in doing your will, my God,
for your instructions are written on my heart.” (NLT)

So I answered, “I’m coming.
I read in your letter what you wrote about me,
And I’m coming to the party
you’re throwing for me.”
That’s when God’s Word entered my life,
became part of my very being.” (MSG)

I graduated from high school in excellent physical condition. I determined that I would always live in top physical condition. That was a promise I failed to keep as soon as I discovered the delicious carbs existing in scandalous abundance at college.

I have recommitted to exemplary physical conditioning many times over the years. I could use some recommitment right now.

One thing I have been better at across the decades is learning, memorizing, and living what God says. I’m not anywhere near perfection or even mastery, but I continue feasting on God’s truths daily. Perfection is not the goal. Daily adjustment is. Course correction is my constant aim.

How about you?

These verses from Psalm 40 remind me of Deuteronomy 6:6-9:

Write these commandments that I’ve given you today on your hearts. Get them inside of you and then get them inside your children. Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning to when you fall into bed at night. Tie them on your hands and foreheads as a reminder; inscribe them on the doorposts of your homes and on your city gates.
‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭6‬:‭6‬-‭9‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Write God’s words of truth and life on your heart. Get them deep inside you so that they shape your thoughts, speech, and actions. Discuss them throughout the day. Ponder them before and during every activity. Align your thoughts with God’s thoughts. Attune your heart to his.

Make God’s words part of your very being.

God’s truth shapes us in the most delightful manner. It provides hope in tough times. It provides comfort in times of loss. It gives direction when we need to know which way to go. It provides wisdom for every eventuality. It comforts and encourages. It reminds us of God’s nature, character, and presence. It teaches us new truths upon regular reflection.

Let God’s words become part of your very being.

I will receive God’s instructions on my heart and mind.

Our Father, teach me more of your truth every day. Remind me of what you have already said. Give me new insights on what you are teaching me now. Shape my thoughts and direct my steps according to your truth. Give me life that is aligned and attuned with you. Amen.

Daily D – 1 Kings 2:1-4

1 Kings 2:1-4 When the time drew near for David to die, he gave a charge to Solomon his son.
“I am about to go the way of all the earth,” he said. “So be strong, act like a man, and observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go and that the Lord may keep his promise to me: ‘If your descendants watch how they live, and if they walk faithfully before me with all their heart and soul, you will never fail to have a successor on the throne of Israel.’”

Daily D – 2 Samuel 22:33

Samuel 22:33 “It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure.”
