Daily D – Psalm 27:1

Psalm 27:1
The LORD is my light and my salvation—
so why should I be afraid?
The LORD is my fortress, protecting me from danger,
so why should I tremble? (NLT)
“Light, space, zest—
that’s God!
So, with him on my side I’m fearless,
afraid of no one and nothing.”

An earworm is a song that gets stuck in your head and plays on repeat, sometimes to the point of driving you crazy. A recent news article suggested that the solution to this issue is to listen to the song all the way through to the end. Our minds don’t like leaving things undone. They don’t like loose ends.
Tie the laces of your mind by finishing the tune.
Ernest Hemingway would close out writing sessions by writing half a sentence. He would then go to sleep and trust his mind to bring closure to the sentence with a story he could in no other way conceive.
There are good earworms and earworms that drive us crazy. For example, the SpongeBob Squarepants theme song. (Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?) How about Michael Jackson singing Beat It? Or, Taylor Swift singing Shake It Off? Uptown Funk, anyone? Never Gonna Give You Up? Who Let the Dogs Out? Happy? Yellow Submarine?
We sang a song in church on Sunday that has been stuck in my head on the most delightfully repetitive replay. The song is The Lord Is My Light and Salvation. Give it a listen when you get a chance ([https://bit.ly/3TG10un](https://bit.ly/3TG10un)). You immediately notice the connection to today’s text found above.
This is a good song to get stuck on replay. It’s a good song to remind us of eternal and timely truths. God is worth waiting for. God is trustworthy. God makes us fearless when we lean into God confidence.
That’s it. That’s the word for the day.

I will wait on the Lord and trust in him for all things at all times.

Our Father, I am confident of this: I will see your goodness in my life, in my world, in my moments and days, now and always. I’m looking for you. I’m expecting you. I’m ready for you and whatever you want for me today. You are my light and salvation. You are the Everlasting God. I set my hopes on you. Amen.
