Daily D – Psalm 16:2
Psalm 16:2
I say to the LORD, “You are my Lord;
apart from you I have no good thing.” (NIV)
I say to the LORD, “You are the Lord,
my only source of well-being.” (NET)
—
God is our only source of well-being.
I try not to dig too deeply into the biblical languages of Hebrew and Greek in these Morning Missives. However, there’s a note here that is especially interesting and meaningful.
Part of this verse can be translated, “My good is not beyond you.” This simply means that there is nothing good in my life that didn’t come from God. Nothing. Not one thing.
Of course, this reminds us of one of my favorite verses, James 1:17:
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
Every good thing in our lives is a gift of God. Every little bit of perfection that we enjoy so deeply came from His hands to our hearts. His unchanging nature is to shower our lives with his beauty and grace to draw our hearts so that we will seek his face.
Every granddaughter
Every border collie.
Every sunrise or sunset.
Every grain of sand on every beach.
Every wave upon the shore, washing away the troubles of the day.
Every spring flower, every summer rose.
Every blue sky, every puffy cloud.
Every savory meal, every tasty beverage.
Every good thing we can think of finds its origin in our Father above.
Everything.
How could we not live with gratitude?
How could we not sing His praise?
—
I will celebrate every good and perfect gift our Father in heaven lavishes upon us every day.
—
Our Father, you are the Giver of All Good Things. You are the Sole Source of all beauty and wonder. You alone invented laughter. You yourself shaped loving delight. All the treasures of this world are evidence of your overflowing goodness. I see you. I praise you. Amen.
