Psalm 125:4, 5
O LORD, do good to those who are good,
whose hearts are in tune with you.
But banish those who turn to crooked ways, O LORD.
Take them away with those who do evil.
May Israel have peace! (NLT)

My wife gently mocked me a few days ago. I was navigating my weekly review with AirPods firmly secured in my ears and some of my favorite tunes filling my heart and mind with familiar melodies. I drummed invisible drums and strummed a very nice air guitar. Occasionally, I would sing along with the song playing in my ears.

What you need to know, if you don’t already, is that my bride sings like a bird. I sing like a buzzard with a belly full of roadkill. I deserve her gentle mocking.

However, let me completely misinterpret some words of Jesus. He famously said, “The first shall be last, and the last shall be first.” So, I’m saying this means I will be one of the best singers in heaven. As much as I love it here and now, and I do, I can’t wait for the ability to declare God’s praise in tune with the anthem of heaven and every singer who cannot help but sing his of his glory.

This psalm says, “O LORD, do good to those who are good,
whose hearts are in tune with you.” I want to have a heart in tune with God. I want to live as a stanza in God’s song of life. No minor keys. All major chords. Baritone organ pipes blaring and vibrating the architecture. Trumpets and trombones flashing brass. Sweet strings sounding like heaven, turning our thoughts from death to life.

If you should hear my hum, whistle, or sing off-key, you know.

If you see me tapping the table, wiggling my foot, or walking with a bit more bounce, you know.

There is a song drawing me heavenward, a song I can’t help but sing.

Sometimes, lament must be pondered and expressed. Sometimes, loss is the painful reality. Sometimes, tears choke the words. Even so, these minor-key moments are harbingers of better, more beautiful, perfectly eternal songs to come.

The best music ever written, the best songs ever sung, are still ahead of us. The anthem of heaven will debut soon. The smile on my face, the bounce in my step, the hum of my heart, and the whistle while I work is a warmup for the main event coming soon.

Are you ready to sing?

I will rehearse for heaven with songs of praise in tune with God’s heart.

Our Father, thank you for the gift of music. It is evidence of heaven. Fill our hearts and minds with your lovely notes of peace and purpose. Empower us with joy and release as we sing your songs. May we now and always live in tune with your heart. Amen.

Daily D – 1 Kings 2:1-4

1 Kings 2:1-4 When the time drew near for David to die, he gave a charge to Solomon his son.
“I am about to go the way of all the earth,” he said. “So be strong, act like a man, and observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go and that the Lord may keep his promise to me: ‘If your descendants watch how they live, and if they walk faithfully before me with all their heart and soul, you will never fail to have a successor on the throne of Israel.’”
