Psalm 120:1
“I took my troubles to the LORD;
I cried out to him, and he answered my prayer.” (NLT)

What is the last problem you had that you took to God in prayer?

What is the last prayer God clearly answered for you?

I keep a simple notebook at my desk in my home office. It contains the big prayer requests in my life. It is less focused on daily prayer and more focused on those things requiring time and resources well beyond my control or influence. It focuses on what only God can do.

The record of God’s Greater Yes in so many different areas over the last few years is a precious treasure. God hears and answers our prayers of faithful dependence and loving trust.

David, Before He Was King, had a really bad day. Some of his closest associates were ready to kill him. You can read all about it in 1 Samuel 30. Give close attention to the end of verse 6.

But David found strength in the LORD his God.

How did God strengthen him? We don’t have to wonder about this for very long. David wrote dozens of songs about what God did for him. In the deepest, darkest difficulties of his life, God was there to protect him and defend him, to guide him and provide for him. Psalm 23 is a good summary of how David found strength in God.

We, too, can look back with gratitude for all God has done in our lives. We can look up in faith, knowing God is the same God who created the world, made dry crossings through seas and rivers, and made it possible for us to come into a deep and abiding relationship with him through the work of Jesus in the cross and resurrection.

Now is a good time to get to our daily prayers. It is also a good time to write down big prayers only God can answer and fulfill. It is time to remember who he is and what he does on behalf of those he loves with perfect and unending love.

I will prayerfully record my big prayers and God’s bigger, better answers.

Our Father, looking at the big prayers in my notebook and how you answered so many so well, I can’t help but smile with delight and express my gratitude. These answered prayers give me greater confidence in the big matters written down but as yet unanswered. You are worth the wait. Thank you for what you are going to do. Amen.

Daily D – Leviticus 8:23-26

Leviticus 8:23-26 The LORD said to Moses, “This applies to the Levites: Men twenty-five years old or more shall come to take part in the work at the tent of meeting, but at the age of fifty, they must retire from their regular service and work no longer. They may assist their brothers in performing their duties at the tent of meeting, but they themselves must not do the work. This, then, is how you are to assign the responsibilities of the Levites.”

Daily D – Psalm 40:1-3

Psalm 40:1-3

“I waited patiently for the LORD;
he turned to me and heard my cry.
He lifted me out of the slimy pit,
out of the mud and mire;
he set my feet on a rock
and gave me a firm place to stand.
He put a new song in my mouth,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear the LORD
and put their trust in him.”

Daily D – Leviticus 26:3-13

Leviticus 26:3-13 “‘If you follow my decrees and are careful to obey my commands, I will send you rain in its season, and the ground will yield its crops and the trees their fruit. Your threshing will continue until grape harvest and the grape harvest will continue until planting, and you will eat all the food you want and live in safety in your land.

“ ‘I will grant peace in the land, and you will lie down and no one will make you afraid. I will remove wild beasts from the land, and the sword will not pass through your country. You will pursue your enemies, and they will fall by the sword before you. Five of you will chase a hundred, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand, and your enemies will fall by the sword before you.

“ ‘I will look on you with favor and make you fruitful and increase your numbers, and I will keep my covenant with you. You will still be eating last year’s harvest when you will have to move it out to make room for the new. I will put my dwelling place among you, and I will not abhor you. I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people. I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt so that you would no longer be slaves to the Egyptians; I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to walk with heads held high.”

Daily D – Leviticus 25:17

Leviticus 25:17 “Do not take advantage of each other, but fear your God. I am the Lord your God.”

Daily D – Psalm 37:5-6

Psalm 37:5, 6 “Commit your way to the LORD;
trust in him and he will do this:
He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn,
your vindication like the noonday sun.”
