Proverbs 16:24
Kind words are like honey—
sweet to the soul and healthy for the body. (NLT)

Our middle granddaughter spent the night with us last night. We watched a few minutes of Winnie the Pooh before she exercised the privilege of turning off the television, brushing her teeth, and getting tucked into bed. Of course, there were a few other steps in there before slumber arrived with deep satisfaction.

Pooh loves his friends and loves his hunny. Notably, I do not recall Pooh ever uttering a discouraging word. He is written to exemplify this verse. Kind words are like honey. Not only are they tasty, but they are enriching as well.

Kind words are sweet to the soul. They make us feel better. They make us want to do better. They provide genuine smiles of a soft and tender nature.

Kind words make us feel stronger. They give us confidence for doing what needs to be done, and doing it with a song in our hearts.

Today is a good day to practice speaking kind words.

Kind words don’t often elicit loud laughter, but they do satisfy souls and comfort hearts. They linger long in memory. They make our pensive moments less stressful and more hopeful.

Here’s a good question to keep close at hand in every conversation and situation: What’s the kindest thing I can say or do in this moment?

Here’s a powerful resolution to employ today: Say the kind words and demonstrate them in every activity.

I will live the sweet and satisfying life kindness makes possible.

Our Father, renovate my heart and mind with your kindness. Replace the artwork as necessary. Rearrange the furniture. Redecorate my vocabulary. May others anticipate kindness from me in every encounter. Amen.

Daily D – 1 Kings 2:1-4

1 Kings 2:1-4 When the time drew near for David to die, he gave a charge to Solomon his son.
“I am about to go the way of all the earth,” he said. “So be strong, act like a man, and observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go and that the Lord may keep his promise to me: ‘If your descendants watch how they live, and if they walk faithfully before me with all their heart and soul, you will never fail to have a successor on the throne of Israel.’”
