Daily D – John 13:3-5
John 13:3-5 Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him. (NIV)

If you knew what Jesus knew, it would change what you say and do.
That was the plan. Read the rest of the chapter. This truth becomes clear and obvious.
Jesus knew where he came from.
Jesus knew where he was going.
Jesus knew what to do in those last moments of teaching with his closest disciples.
He wanted to impress on them the truth that great leaders serve. The greatest leader who ever led, the greatest servant who ever bled, did what only he could do to get his ultimate message through.
After washing the disciples’ feet, he says in verse 15, “I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.”
Great leaders see the obvious needs. Great leaders are quick to their knees. Great leaders provide service and relief.
Jesus drove home the lesson of the moment with the words we find in verse 17: “Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.”
Who doesn’t want to live a more blessed life? The one who blesses is the one who is most blessed.
Knowing what Jesus knew, how will it change what you say and do?

I will follow Jesus’ example and seek to bless others through opportune service.

Our Father, you are better to us than we are to ourselves. You are better to us than we are to those we love best. Make us more like you. Make us ever more alert to the opportunities around us to serve others in your name. Make us a blessing to those who need your blessings of love for this lifetime and beyond. Thank you for how simple service leads to extravagant joy. Amen.
