1 Kings 22:4, 5  Then he turned to Jehoshaphat and asked, “Will you join me in battle to recover Ramoth-gilead?” Jehoshaphat replied to the king of Israel, “Why, of course! You and I are as one. My troops are your troops, and my horses are your horses.” Then Jehoshaphat added, “But first let’s find out what the Lord says.” (NLT)

Three things:

1. Be careful who you ally yourself with and how quickly you enter into dangerous decisions.
2. Seek God’s wisdom first and foremost.
3. Do what God says.

Jehoshaphat asked the right question and received the right answer, but then he didn’t hear and obey what God said. Micaiah the prophet told Ahab and Jehoshaphat what would happen, and Jehoshaphat still went into a battle God had told him would be disastrous.

On the other hand, Jesus told his closest followers for months that they were going to Jerusalem where he would be arrested, tortured, and killed. He told them he would also rise from the dead. It was as if they could not hear. They did not understand these things until they had lived through them and saw Jesus resurrected and ascended.

They abandoned Jesus at his most vulnerable moment. They failed to seek God’s wisdom. They did what Jesus told them they would do as they ran away and hid themselves.

Palm Sunday is a day to see Jesus for who he is and for why he entered Jerusalem. He alone could do what needed to be done to make us right with God now and forever. He did, and because he did, we can enter a new kind of living.

Psalm 111:1, 2 is appropriate for today:

Praise the Lord!
I will thank the Lord with all my heart
as I meet with his godly people.
How amazing are the deeds of the Lord!
All who delight in him should ponder them.

This is a week when our highest powers of attention should be trained on Jesus. An app for your phone can prove helpful. EasterNow ([https://easternow.com) will take you through Jesus’ every move this week from the Triumphal Entry to the Resurrection. It will help you see Jesus with fresh eyes.

I will look back in wonder and forward in confidence.

Our Father, open my eyes this week to see what you want to show me. Give me ears to hear what you are saying to me. Give me a willing and obedient heart to follow where you lead. Amen.

Daily D – 1 Kings 2:1-4

1 Kings 2:1-4 When the time drew near for David to die, he gave a charge to Solomon his son.
“I am about to go the way of all the earth,” he said. “So be strong, act like a man, and observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go and that the Lord may keep his promise to me: ‘If your descendants watch how they live, and if they walk faithfully before me with all their heart and soul, you will never fail to have a successor on the throne of Israel.’”

Daily D – 2 Samuel 22:33

Samuel 22:33 “It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure.”
