Psalm 65:8
Those who live at the ends of the earth stand in awe of your wonders.
From where the sun rises to where it sets,
you inspire shouts of joy. (NLT)

The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders;
where morning dawns, where evening fades,
you call forth songs of joy. (NIV)

Far and wide they’ll come to a stop,
they’ll stare in awe, in wonder.
Dawn and dusk take turns
calling, “Come and worship.”
(The Message)

Last night’s sunset was a masterpiece conceived in the mind of God, delivered by the heart of God, and enjoyed with extra awe by everyone who knows God’s name and nature, kindness and character.

The combinations of blue and gold, pink and purple were transcendent.

A friend sat across the room telling the story of God’s work in his life while behind him God was telling a complementary story of daily grace and welcome wonder.

Again and again, Psalm 19:1-4 comes to memory:

The heavens proclaim the glory of God.
The skies display his craftsmanship.
Day after day they continue to speak;
night after night they make him known.
They speak without a sound or word;
their voice is never heard.
Yet their message has gone throughout the earth,
and their words to all the world.

This majesty and glory call to us daily. Majesty speaks wordless volumes of truth. Glory arranges, composes, and orchestrates symphonies in the skies. Melodic and harmonic, rhythmic, and creative, it says more than words aptly describe, than minds perceive or postulate.

Day by day, our Father in Heaven declares his love in carnivals of color, in shades of light and dark, in dramatic clouds, in moonlight so soft, in sun so constant.

Simple words give clear direction for how to respond to such extravagance: Stop, Look, Listen.

Are you listening, really listening?

Do you see, really see?

The mundane glory of the skies sings a wordless song of God’s nearness, dearness, joy, and delight. He made it all to say what professors cannot deny, what atheists cannot hide from, to press past every argument against his existence, to say to you, “I love you.”

Step outside. Receive the wonder. Smile with a happy heart knowing God knows you, loves you, and wraps you in his beauty.

I will see the glory.

Our Father, though my singing voice is untrained and unsuited for public performance, here are the words of one of my favorite songs I offer to you today as my prayer:

A Perfect Heart
Morning sun light of creation
Grassy fields of velvet floor
Silver clouds a shimmering curtain
He’s designed a perfect world
I’m amazed at His talents
I stand in awe of One so great
Now my soul begins to sing out
To the source from which it came

CHORUS

Bless the Lord Who reigns with beauty
Bless the Lord Who reigns with wisdom and with power
Bless the Lord Who reigns my life with so much love
He can make a perfect heart
Praise the Lord Who reigns in beauty
Praise the Lord Who reigns with wisdom and with power
Praise the Lord Who reigns my life with so much love
He can make a perfect heart
