Proverbs 27:1
Don’t boast about tomorrow,
for you don’t know what a day might bring. (CSB)

Don’t brashly announce what you’re going to do tomorrow;
you don’t know the first thing about tomorrow. (MSG)

Advance planning is wise. Prognosticating guaranteed outcomes is not.

This proverb has been part of my Friday prayer list for forty years. It is a regular reminder not to live for the weekend despite the many songs encouraging us to do just that.

These wise words help keep me focused on today. Today, right now, is the only time we really live. We can’t live tomorrow or relive yesterday. We can make the most of this moment’s opportunity.

* What does this present moment make possible?
* What can we accomplish right now?
* What could be done?
* What should be done?
* What will be done?

Yesterday’s travels brought me to Indianapolis. Last week’s work prepared me for the meetings I will attend today and tomorrow. Last night, I remembered one thing I forgot to prepare for. Oops.

So, I will begin my day with unforced urgency. Fortunately, the task at hand is simply completed. Today’s scramble will serve as a firm reminder of what not to do next time. Evaluated experience, you may have heard, is a really good teacher.

How can we make the most of this moment?

I will live fully present in each moment.

Our Father, thank you for graciously reminding us to walk with you moment by moment. Thank you for helping us not get ahead of ourselves. Thank you for reminding us that we cannot relive our yesterdays. Thank you for giving us grace for here and now. Amen.

Daily D – Matthew 1:20-21

Matthew 1:20, 21 But after he had considered these things, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, don’t be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because what has been conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

Daily D – Hebrews 6:15

Hebrews 6:15 And so, after waiting patiently, Abraham obtained the promise.

Daily D – Hebrews 4:15-16

Hebrews 4:15, 16 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in every way as we are, yet without sin. Therefore, let us approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in time of need.

Daily D – Psalm 25:8

Psalm 25:8 The Lord is good and upright;
therefore he shows sinners the way.
He leads the humble in what is right
and teaches them his way.

Daily D – Philemon 15, 16

Philemon 15, 16 For perhaps this is why he was separated from you for a brief time, so that you might get him back permanently, no longer as a slave, but more than a slave — as a dearly loved brother. He is especially so to me, but how much more to you, both in the flesh and in the Lord.
