Jeremiah 6:16  This is what the Lord says: “Stop at the crossroads and look around. Ask for the old, godly way, and walk in it. Travel its path, and you will find rest for your souls. But you reply, ‘No, that’s not the road we want!’ (NLT)

What you want and need is found along a road to your ultimate destiny. You will discover there a life better than you dreamed possible. It is clearly marked. It is an uncrowded way. Daily adventure awaits. What’s stopping you from taking your best next step?

The people of Jeremiah’s day had a better idea. They would boldly go where no one had gone before. Their problem lay in the essence of their quest. They were not seeking the highest and best for others. They were not seeking the highest and best for themselves. They sought endless entertainment, personal satisfaction without regard for what it cost others.

Their thirst could not be quenched. Their bellies could not be filled. Their sexual appetites were, well, you get the picture.

Every beverage, morsel, and body was theirs for the taking, using, and discarding. Their lives could be summed up with the single word “More.”

More and more led them to less and less of what God had planned for them. The delights in his hand were ignored. Other hands held what they wanted to sate their appetites, to affirm their prejudices, and to offer them the approval of living at an elite level.

It is wise to listen to God who sees the end from before the beginning. He knows every road. He is wiser than Waze, more reliable than Google Maps, and more available than Apple Maps.

Every mission God sends us on is surrounded by his presence and supported by his provision. We never travel alone.

Here we are on Monday during a seasonal shift. School is starting. Traffic is picking up. The rush toward the holidays has arrived at the starting line.

Before the starter’s pistol fires, make sure you’re on the right path. How’s your heart? How’s your mind? How’s your body? How are your relationships? The hike before you will reveal your true condition. If something requires attention, now is the time to address it before it gets lost in the details.

You can arrive at the holidays refreshed and ready if you listen to God. He says, “Stop at the crossroads and look around. Ask for the old, godly way, and walk in it. Travel its path, and you will find rest for your souls.”

Some folks who esteemed themselves smarter than God chose a different path. Predictably and disastrously, it led to destruction. You and I are not smarter than God, but hopefully, we are smarter than those people.

The right path leads to the right place in the right timing and provides the right results. The right path invigorates rather than exhausts. The best soul care is walking with the Captain of Your Soul.

I will find the right path and follow it day by day, trusting God to show me the way.

Our Father, lead us along your path. Thank you for preparing the way before us. Thank you for securing the path around us. Thank you for walking along with us. Thank you that we are never alone. Amen.

Daily D – Psalm 37:5-6

Psalm 37:5, 6
Commit everything you do to the LORD.
Trust him, and he will help you.
He will make your innocence radiate like the dawn,
and the justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun.

Daily D – Habakkuk 3:17-19

Habakkuk 3:17-19
Even though the fig trees have no blossoms,
and there are no grapes on the vines;
even though the olive crop fails,
and the fields lie empty and barren;
even though the flocks die in the fields,
and the cattle barns are empty,
The Sovereign Lord is my strength!

Daily D – Psalm 36:5-6

Psalm 36:5, 6
God’s love is meteoric,
his loyalty astronomic,
His purpose titanic,
his verdicts oceanic.
Yet in his largeness nothing gets lost;
Not a man, not a mouse,
slips through the cracks.

Daily D – Jonah 1:3

Jonah 1:3 But Jonah got up and went in the opposite direction to get away from the Lord. He went down to the port of Joppa, where he found a ship leaving for Tarshish. He bought a ticket and went on board, hoping to escape from the Lord by sailing to Tarshish.

Daily D – Psalm 25:12

Psalm 25:12
The Lord shows his faithful followers
the way they should live.
