Howdy! And Happy New Year!

The Bible reading plan I am using this year is the YouVersion plan Bible Project: The Bible. I invite you to join me. You can learn more about the Bible Project here: https://bibleproject.com/

The Bible translation I will use this year is the New Living Translation. I will use the New International Version, the English Standard Version, the Christian Standard Bible, and The Message for comparison.

Who do you know who would benefit from these short devotionals? Send a sample using the sharing links in the banner at the top of this page. Add an invitation to join us on the journey. Let’s get to know God better and experience him daily. As you know, there are no financial solicitations, and there is nothing to buy.

If you would like for me and others to pray for you about anything at any time, feel free to email me: david@davidgbowman.com

Genesis 21:1, 2  “The Lord kept his word and did for Sarah exactly what he had promised. She became pregnant, and she gave birth to a son for Abraham in his old age. This happened at just the time God had said it would.” (NLT)

1. God did what he said he would do.
2. God did what he said he would do when he said he would do it.
3. God did what he said he would do when he said he would do it and everyone laughed with joy.

Laughter is a gift from heaven.

Joy comes when we see God do what only he can do when he says it will be done.

I will live with a readiness to laugh from a place of deep joy.

Our Father, you are the Giver of All Good Things. Among your best gifts is laughter. Thank you for the joy of delighting with you in the wonders of this world. Laughter must be the natural language of heaven. Empower us to give and receive laughter today in all its beautiful dialects. Amen.

Daily D – Isaiah 61:1-3

Isaiah 61:1-3 “The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,
because the LORD has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,
to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
the oil of joy
instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the LORD
for the display of his splendor.”

Daily D – Isaiah 60:19-22

Isaiah 60:19-22 The sun will no more be your light by day,
nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you,
for the LORD will be your everlasting light,
and your God will be your glory.
Your sun will never set again,
and your moon will wane no more;
the LORD will be your everlasting light,
and your days of sorrow will end.
Then all your people will be righteous
and they will possess the land forever.
They are the shoot I have planted,
the work of my hands,
for the display of my splendor.
The least of you will become a thousand,
the smallest a mighty nation.
I am the LORD;
in its time I will do this swiftly.”

Daily D – Proverbs 18:22

Proverbs 18:22 He who finds a wife finds what is good
and receives favor from the Lord.

Daily D – Isaiah 55:6-7

Isaiah 55:6, 7 “Seek the LORD while he may be found;
call on him while he is near.
Let the wicked forsake their ways
and the unrighteous their thoughts.
Let them turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on them,
and to our God, for he will freely pardon.”

Daily D – Isaiah 49:15-16

Isaiah 49:15, 16 “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast
and have no compassion on the child she has borne?
Though she may forget,
I will not forget you!
See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands;
your walls are ever before me.”
