Daily D – Esther 10:3

Mordecai the Jew became the prime minister, with authority next to that of King Xerxes himself. He was very great among the Jews, who held him in high esteem, because he continued to work for the good of his people and to speak up for the welfare of all their descendants. ESTHER 10:3 (NLT)

Mordecai was in the right place at the right time to overhear a plot on the king’s life. He reported this news and saved the king. This led to the salvation of his own life and the lives of all Jews across the kingdom.

Mordecai most likely was not the king’s biggest fan. The Jews were exiled to this foreign land. They had been carried from their homeland as survivors of a war that destroyed their nation. Still, Mordecai did the right thing.

Mordy’s younger cousin, who he had raised after the death of her parents, became the queen. In God’s long game, he was moving pieces in place to win in spectacular fashion.

Because of where Mordecai and Esther were when an evil man conspired to wipe out their whole people group, they were able to act and respond in a manner that honored God and served, yes saved, others.

If you have not read Esther in some time, sit yourself down and take fifteen or twenty minutes and do so. It is a thrill ride.

Where has God placed you? How are you serving with integrity and character day by day? What does this make possible?

You may be looking for what’s next, but while you are where you are, be all there. Honor God by giving your best work in that position. Serve others by seeking their highest and best. Trust God with the results.

Mordecai and Esther saved their people from certain destruction by living faithfully in places they would have otherwise chosen not to be. Trust God with where you are. Trust him for what’s next. Honor him and serve others day by day. He may well use you to alter destinies. Such awareness makes even menial employment meaningful.

I will give God my best day by day.

Our Father, you have placed us where we are. You will move us when you are ready. You have purpose for us wherever we are. Who do you want to bless and how through where we are now? Show us how to join you in what you are doing all around us. Amen.
