Commit your actions to the LORD, and your plans will succeed. PROVERBS 16:3 (NLT)

Put God in charge of your work, then what you’ve planned will take place.
The Message

Yesterday we had the privilege of hearing from Tillie Burgin and her son Jim. Tillie is the woman who started Mission Arlington by taking care of one family in need. Today, even in this season of COVID-19, the ministry serves hundreds of people per day. She told us about the pallets of food and beverages grocery stores deliver daily. Every day everything that comes in goes right back out to someone in need. Everyday men, women, and children meet Jesus as they receive compassionate care from the staff at Mission Arlington.

One day they received a refrigerator. Someone came in that day who needed a refrigerator. They received a donation of pasta. Then they received another donation of pasta sauce. Someone came in who was looking for those exact items. They could not help being amused by the kind of pasta it was: angel hair.

This ministry is providing emergency dental care, medical care, durable medical equipment, counseling, support groups, and 364 house churches and congregations. Long before COVID-19 forced congregations into homes and small groups, Mission Arlington was already doing that kind of ministry.

Tillie is older than most people. She works from five to nine. That’s five in the morning to nine at night. She said there has never been a strategic plan or goals involved in the growth of the ministry. Their simple plan has been that whatever God provides through donations or financial support goes right back out to meet the immediate needs of those who seek assistance. Tillie and Jim and their small team walk closely with God and are ready to move with God wherever he leads.

Tillie’s life teaches us that if your plan is to walk with God at every moment, at every moment you will be where God wants you to be, and you will do what God wants you to do, and you will always have what you need to provide for those in need.

“Put God in charge of your work.” Hudson Taylor said, “God’s work done in God’s way will never lack God’s supply.” Tillie and Mission Arlington are living proof of this truth. The God who owns the cattle on a thousand hills (Ps. 50:10) and the gold in every mine make it clear to us that he will supply all our needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus (Phil. 4:19). As King David said in his most famous psalm, “The LORD is my shepherd; I have all that I need.”

How successful do you want to be? How successful do you want to be about those things that matter most? Put God in charge of your work.

I will put God in charge of my work.

Our Father, I want to do your will your way. I want to experience success that honors you and serves others. I want to succeed at what matters most. Amen.

Daily D – Isaiah 65:1-2

Isaiah 65:1, 2
The Lord says, “I was ready to respond, but no one asked for help.
I was ready to be found, but no one was looking for me.
I said, ‘Here I am, here I am!’
to a nation that did not call on my name.
All day long I opened my arms to a rebellious people.
But they follow their own evil paths
and their own crooked schemes.”

Daily D – Psalm 131

Psalm 131
Lord, my heart is not proud;
my eyes are not haughty.
I don’t concern myself with matters too great
or too awesome for me to grasp.
Instead, I have calmed and quieted myself,
like a weaned child who no longer cries for its mother’s milk.
Yes, like a weaned child is my soul within me.
O Israel, put your hope in the Lord—
now and always.

Daily D – Isaiah 55:8-13

Isaiah 55:8-13
“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD.
“And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.
For just as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so my ways are higher than your ways
and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.

“The rain and snow come down from the heavens
and stay on the ground to water the earth.
They cause the grain to grow,
producing seed for the farmer
and bread for the hungry.
It is the same with my word.
I send it out, and it always produces fruit.
It will accomplish all I want it to,
and it will prosper everywhere I send it.
You will live in joy and peace.
The mountains and hills will burst into song,
and the trees of the field will clap their hands!
Where once there were thorns, cypress trees will grow.
Where nettles grew, myrtles will sprout up.
These events will bring great honor to the LORD’s name;
they will be an everlasting sign of his power and love.”

Daily D – Isaiah 50:4-5

Isaiah 50:4, 5 “The Sovereign Lord has given me his words of wisdom,
so that I know how to comfort the weary.
Morning by morning he wakens me
and opens my understanding to his will.
The Sovereign Lord has spoken to me,
and I have listened.
I have not rebelled or turned away.”

Daily D – Isaiah 48:17-18

Isaiah 48:17, 18 This is what the Lord says—
your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:
“I am the LORD your God,
who teaches you what is good for you
and leads you along the paths you should follow.
Oh, that you had listened to my commands!
Then you would have had peace flowing like a gentle river
and righteousness rolling over you like waves in the sea.”
