2 Peter 3:17, 18
“You already know these things, dear friends. So be on guard; then you will not be carried away by the errors of these wicked people and lose your own secure footing. Rather, you must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. All glory to him, both now and forever! Amen.” (NLT)

“But you, friends, are well-warned. Be on guard lest you lose your footing and get swept off your feet by these lawless and loose-talking teachers. Grow in grace and understanding of our Master and Savior, Jesus Christ. Glory to the Master, now and forever! Yes!” (MSG)

The Apostle Peter sums up his life and teaching with simple instructions. Live what you say you believe. Grow in the grace of Jesus and the experiential knowledge of his nature and commission.

Old Saint Pete compared Jesus and the false teachers who maliciously misrepresented him. Peter never got over that day on the mountain when Jesus was transfigured before him. He saw who Jesus truly is. He saw him in all his glory. He saw Moses and Elijah. He heard God’s voice.

That experience completely reoriented Peter. Walking on water was fun and games. Seeing Jesus completely revealed as who he was gave ever-greater weight to his words, ever-deeper meaning to his actions, and ever-fuller meaning for the remaining days of Peter’s life.

Peter uses this book to help us see Jesus through his eyes. He invites us to come to know Jesus the way he did. More than words of truth and life, more than daily kindness in his name, Peter wants us to know the good, good grace of Jesus. He wants us to know the incomparable glory of Jesus.

Never settle for false teaching. Never settle for short-term, feel-good events. Know the truth. Align your life with it. Attune your heart to it. Experience Jesus.

I will grow daily in the grace and knowledge of Jesus.

Our Father, grow me in grace. Grow me in knowledge. Grow me in purposeful living. Amen.
