Acts 13:22  But God removed Saul and replaced him with David, a man about whom God said, ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart. He will do everything I want him to do.’” (NLT)

If you want to write a book for the Christian market that you know will sell a good number of copies, write it about how to know God’s will. A quick internet search shows dozens of books in this narrow genre. You would think only one would be necessary.

David, the shepherd boy, the giant killer, the fugitive, and, at last, the king, was a man God could count on to do what he wanted done. God said about David,

“‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart. He will do everything I want him to do.’”

Knowing God’s will, in a very real sense, comes down to the answer to a simple question: Will you do whatever God asks or commands?

This is the scary, sticky part for most people.

Having been conditioned to fear the worst from our fellow humans, we are often dubious about even the best individual’s true motives when they ask us for something outside our comfort zone.

God, on the other hand, can be trusted in all things at all times. He will never ask us to do something he will not prepare the way before us, equip us for, empower us for, and go with us all the way.

Knowing God’s will is as easy and as challenging as giving God your definitive Yes. Whatever he wants for us is better than anything we could want for ourselves.

Whatever he wants for us is better for everyone else than what we could provide or hope for.

Whatever he wants for us, and for others, is motivated and animated by his perfect love. It is empowered and guided by his grace and mercy. It overflows with his compassion and lovingkindness.

It is a wee sad soul that responds to God’s will with a “Sorry, I don’t want to do that.”

Pray no timid prayers. Pray instead like this: “Whatever you want, that’s what I want, too.”

You and I can settle a great deal about knowing and doing God’s will by telling him here and now, “Yes. Whatever you ask, you have my ready and responsive Yes.”

I will give God my settled Yes.

Our Father, whatever you want, that’s what I want, too. You have my Yes. You have me. Deploy me as you see fit. Amen.

Daily D – Leviticus 18:1-5

Leviticus 18:1-5 The Lord said to Moses, “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘I am the Lord your God. You must not do as they do in Egypt, where you used to live, and you must not do as they do in the land of Canaan, where I am bringing you. Do not follow their practices. You must obey my laws and be careful to follow my decrees. I am the Lord your God. Keep my decrees and laws, for the person who obeys them will live by them. I am the Lord.”

Daily D – Leviticus 11:44-45

Leviticus 11:44, 45 “I am the LORD your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy. Do not make yourselves unclean by any creature that moves along the ground. I am the LORD, who brought you up out of Egypt to be your God; therefore be holy, because I am holy.”

Daily D – Leviticus 10:1-2

Leviticus 10:1, 2 Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu took their censers, put fire in them and added incense; and they offered unauthorized fire before the Lord, contrary to his command. So fire came out from the presence of the Lord and consumed them, and they died before the Lord.
