2 Chronicles‬ ‭1‬:‭7  That night God appeared to Solomon and said, “What do you want? Ask, and I will give it to you!” (NLT)

‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭1‬:‭10 “Give me the wisdom and knowledge to lead them properly, for who could possibly govern this great people of yours?” (NLT)

Dreams and fantasies are different. Dreams have the possiblity of coming true, while fantasies never do.

Dreams given by God align and attune themselves to his grace and truth. They honor God and bless others.

Fantasies are all about the individual. Everything is all about them, their happiness, and their glory. They make everyone servants to their comforts and delights.

Some people live outlandish fantasy lives, at least for a while. It’s amazing how many fantasy lives are among the most-read and most-viewed news stories on social media. People love excess. People also love a good train wreck. Those living the fantasy instead of living the dream often ask the public to “respect their privacy” as they enter rehab to recover from the consequences of their fantasies.

This is where they often reinvent themselves to live a different fantasy, and the cycle begins again.

This is not to sound unnecessarily critical. Instead, it is to point people toward the kind of dreams God gives that makes life better for everyone.

It’s much better to have political leaders who live in the dream world rather than the fantasy world.

It’s much better to have a boss who aspires to direct the energies of the team toward dreams that bless and serve everyone.

It’s much better to marry a dreamer than a fantasy specialist. It’s also cheaper.

Solomon got to live the life of his dreams because he sought wisdom rather than wealth. God’s wisdom also came with an extra helping of wealth. Solomon’s dreams came true for so long and so expansively that he soon lost sight of the dream and settled for fantasies instead. This did not end well. It almost never does.

Today’s a good day to ask God to replace any fantasies hanging around your heart and mind in exchange for dreams that richly reward everyone.

Today’s a good day to change your response to the question, “How’s it going?” from “Good!” to “Living the Dream.” This, of course, depends on you leaning into God’s dream for you by learning to pray like Solomon.

I will live the life of God’s dreams for me.

Our Father, please fill my heart and mind with your dreams for me. Drive out fantasies that make everything always all about me. May the work of my hands the the words of my mouth find their origin in your heart and mind. Empower me to serve others with truth and grace. Empower me to redirect all accolades to you. Thank you that your dreams for me are far superior to any fantasy I could have for myself. Amen.

Leviticus 18:1-5 The Lord said to Moses, “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘I am the Lord your God. You must not do as they do in Egypt, where you used to live, and you must not do as they do in the land of Canaan, where I am bringing you. Do not follow their practices. You must obey my laws and be careful to follow my decrees. I am the Lord your God. Keep my decrees and laws, for the person who obeys them will live by them. I am the Lord.”

Daily D – Leviticus 10:1-2

Leviticus 10:1, 2 Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu took their censers, put fire in them and added incense; and they offered unauthorized fire before the Lord, contrary to his command. So fire came out from the presence of the Lord and consumed them, and they died before the Lord.
