Psalm 77:19
Your road led through the sea,
your pathway through the mighty waters—
a pathway no one knew was there! (NLT)

It’s the road unseen that leads us where we need to go. It’s not a path we can lay out for ourselves. It’s not discoverable with a map and GPS. We never know its end until the moment of recognition upon arrival.

It was windy and the waves were covered with white caps as the moon and stars took their places last night. The breeze blew spray from the crests as they rolled on toward the shore. Sailboats moored in the bay with bare masts. They faced into the gale, bobbing from their secure tethers.

The sea is calm this morning. The steady waves pound with muted voices. Morning Sun arises from the other side of the mountain. Its illuminating presence arrives well before its form is visible.

Today, we journey home from vacation. We will walk a bit, drive a bit, and fly a lot. We will not make it home until tomorrow. Tomorrow, the place so confidently named that never arrives. Somehow, it is always Today.

Today, we take the mapped-out journey toward home. Today is a day of farewells and intermediate steps. Today will take us from a place we love visiting to a place we love living. Today is a good day to live. It’s the only day we’ve got.

The road unseen will lead us home one day. All the way home. The home where there is no tomorrow, the home where there is only Today. It is the Today that never ends, the home we always longed for, and the peace we always hoped for in our deepest and most beautiful dreams.

Where are you along the road unseen? It’s okay if you’re not sure. Stay close to your Guide. Seek his direction. Walk the path he lays out for you. Today is a remarkable adventure in the making. Let’s enjoy every step.

I will stay close to my guide along the road unseen.

Our Father, lead me step by step, thought by thought, word by word through this day. Empower me for all that’s before me. Instruct me with all I need to know. Make me a blessing to my traveling companions. May they anticipate kindness as we journey together. Amen.

Daily D – 1 Kings 2:1-4

1 Kings 2:1-4 When the time drew near for David to die, he gave a charge to Solomon his son.
“I am about to go the way of all the earth,” he said. “So be strong, act like a man, and observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go and that the Lord may keep his promise to me: ‘If your descendants watch how they live, and if they walk faithfully before me with all their heart and soul, you will never fail to have a successor on the throne of Israel.’”
