Psalm 121:8 
The LORD keeps watch over you as you come and go, 
both now and forever. (NLT)

Here’s some good news: The psalm beginning with the verse that asks where our help comes from concludes with the affirmation, “The LORD keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.”

Truths: 

1. You have never been out of God’s sight. 
2. You have never been outside of God’s watchcare.
3. You will never be beyond his reach. 
4. And, as Psalm 139 states, there is nowhere you can go that he is not.

When God gave Moses the Ten Commandments, he said, “Do not have other gods besides me” (Exodus 20:3). The word translated in the Christian Standard Bible as “besides” and “before” in the New International Version indicates we are to have no other gods above God, below God, or alongside God. It means, quite simply, “no other gods.”

Beyond that, you don’t need any other god of any other kind above or below or alongside God. You need God. God is all you need for anything and everything you will ever face. Depend solely on him. Divorce yourself from every other god. 

Psalm 121 begins with a bit of wondering in the wandering when it states and asks,

“I look up to the mountains— does my help come from there?”

Other people place their idols and altars on top of hills and mountains to get closer to God. Not us. No, on the contrary, verse two declares

“My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth!”

Trust Hillmaker and Mountainmaker and Oceanmaker and Skymaker who goes before us and behind, alongside us, and above and below. 

Nothing handcrafted, no matter how artistic, compares with the One who created art, art supplies, and the gifts of artistic craftsmanship. 

My help and yours come from our Maker and the Creator of All Things and not from anything that has been made. 

If we have a relationship with God through his Son Jesus, and if we live in the power and under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, there is nothing we lack for anything we face. 

“The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need” (Psalms ‭23‬:‭1‬ ‭NLT‬‬).

You and I have all that we need for everything before us today. We can begin this day with praise and end it with thanksgiving.

Our Father, I don’t need any other gods. I need only you and want only you. Draw me ever closer to you. Make my heart more like yours. Empower me for all I will face. Use me as a demonstration of your amazing grace. Amen.
