Proverbs 9:12
“If you are wise, you are wise for your own benefit;
if you mock, you alone will bear the consequences.”(CSB)

“If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you;
if you are a mocker, you alone will suffer.” (NIV)

“If you become wise, you will be the one to benefit.
If you scorn wisdom, you will be the one to suffer.” (NLT)

Live wisely and wisdom will permeate your life;
mock life and life will mock you. (MSG)

Wisdom rewards its trustees. Detractors end up with empty minds and emptier pockets.

I wonder why people seem to shun wisdom these days. Is it because its pace is more ponderous and less exciting than internet offerings? An example: Proverbs 6:6 says, “Go to the ant, you slacker!” An internet search of the word Ant provides results including dictionary definitions, encyclopedia entries, descriptions of different kinds of ants, YouTube videos of ants, and instructions for exterminating ants. This is a lot of information.

Going back to Proverbs 6:6, I discover there is a simple, transformational lesson to learn if I dare. Perusing dozens of entries to an internet search and getting lost in one aspect of antdom or another completely misses the point of the proverb. We don’t need to know everything about ants to focus on the most important aspect of the illustration.

Solomon wanted us to learn that we need to get up and go to work every workday. This daily discipline empowers us to provide for ourselves and others. This is wisdom. If we reject this wisdom, we will end up impoverished.

Wisdom benefits us. Endless information merely clutters our thinking and hinders our productivity.

Wisdom expands. Laziness shrinks.

Wisdom rewards. Carelessness loses.

Wisdom builds up. Mockery tears down.

More wisdom, please.

I will work to the benefit of myself and others by seeking wisdom.

Our Father, grow me in this grace of wisdom. Your wisdom unlocks insights and applications. It reshapes and renews my confused thinking and misunderstanding. It strengthens me for profitable work. It protects me from careless loss. Teach me what I need to know that will make me more fruitful and effective. Empower me to live a life beneficial to others. Amen.

From the depths of despair, O LORD,
I call for your help.

Daily D – Psalm 125:4-5

Psalm 125:4, 5
O LORD, do good to those who are good,
whose hearts are in tune with you.
But banish those who turn to crooked ways, O LORD.
Take them away with those who do evil.
May Israel have peace!

Daily D – Psalm 116:15

The LORD cares deeply
when his loved ones die.

Daily D – Psalm 106:1-3

Psalm 106:1-3
Praise the LORD!
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good!
His faithful love endures forever.
Who can list the glorious miracles of the LORD?
Who can ever praise him enough?
There is joy for those who deal justly with others
and always do what is right.

Daily D – Psalm 103:1-5

Psalm 103:1-5
Let all that I am praise the LORD;
with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name.
Let all that I am praise the LORD;
may I never forget the good things he does for me.
He forgives all my sins
and heals all my diseases.
He redeems me from death
and crowns me with love and tender mercies.
He fills my life with good things.
My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!
