Joshua 11:21, 22  At that time Joshua proceeded to exterminate the Anakim from the hill country — Hebron, Debir, Anab — all the hill country of Judah and of Israel. Joshua completely destroyed them with their cities. No Anakim were left in the land of the Israelites, except for some remaining in Gaza, Gath, and Ashdod.“ (CSB)

Unfinished business has a way of becoming a bigger problem to solve. Little David had to face Giant Goliath because Joshua left one important task undone.

When it comes to killing giants, kill ‘em all. Stray giants cause big problems. And this is no Jack Tale.

What are the giants, metaphorically speaking, in your land? What would it take to knock ‘em down so they don’t get up and cause more problems?

Little things matter. Taking care of little things today prevents them from growing into giants tomorrow, next week, next month, next year, or in the next decade.

At this point, you may have guessed I saw the cardiologist yesterday. You would be right. The good news is, I don’t have a giant problem. I have a small issue we are dealing with today to prevent big bad problems later.

Don’t get me started on my neck and back. There are lots of little problems there. At this point, the metaphor shifts to Whack-a-Mole. We solve one problem, and another pops up.

As I said, don’t get me started.

Consider your schedule today. What giants loom large? What little things threaten to grow bigger, badder, and more bothersome? What sling, stone, or sword do you require to get a head? (I never get tired of that joke.)

Little Davids and Davidas can take out giants.

You may feel you are too small
to take down a problem so tall,
but with God as your strength and your all,
you can sling stones like a ball
and watch your giants fall.

I will take out the giants of this day and prevent little things from becoming tomorrow’s giants.

Our Father, give us the self-discipline we need today to take the right lead measures in every issue coming before us. Give us the self-control we require to stay focused on the tasks before us until they are completed or managed. Give us the wisdom to solve problems when they are small so they do not become unmanageable down the road. Amen.

From the depths of despair, O LORD,
I call for your help.
Hear my cry, O Lord.
Pay attention to my prayer.

Daily D – Psalm 125:4-5

Psalm 125:4, 5
O LORD, do good to those who are good,
whose hearts are in tune with you.
But banish those who turn to crooked ways, O LORD.
Take them away with those who do evil.
May Israel have peace!

Daily D – Psalm 116:15

Psalm 116:15
The LORD cares deeply
when his loved ones die.

Daily D – Psalm 106:1-3

Psalm 106:1-3
Praise the LORD!
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good!
His faithful love endures forever.
Who can list the glorious miracles of the LORD?
Who can ever praise him enough?
There is joy for those who deal justly with others
and always do what is right.

Daily D – Psalm 103:1-5

Psalm 103:1-5
Let all that I am praise the LORD;
with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name.
Let all that I am praise the LORD;
may I never forget the good things he does for me.
He forgives all my sins
and heals all my diseases.
He redeems me from death
and crowns me with love and tender mercies.
He fills my life with good things.
My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!
