Romans 2:4
Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin? (NLT)

Or did you think that because he’s such a nice God, he’d let you off the hook? Better think this one through from the beginning. God is kind, but he’s not soft. In kindness he takes us firmly by the hand and leads us into a radical life-change.
(The Message)

God is kind, but he is not soft.

Eugene Peterson gifted us this paraphrase of verses 3 and 4. His clarity drives away the darkness of misunderstanding God. Take a look at the last full sentence:

In kindness he takes us firmly by the hand and leads us into a radical life-change.

Radical life change is what grace accomplishes. Grace transforms or it isn’t grace. Grace transforms or it isn’t kind.

We cannot encounter God and leave unchanged. It is perfectly impossible to believe otherwise.

Evidence of such a life-changing encounter is found in how we become more and more like God in his patience and kindness. Our Father in Heaven takes impatient, unkind people and truly transforms them into patient and kind ambassadors of grace, mercy, and peace.

How will God’s grace and kindness turn your heart toward all that is right and good today?

I will invite God to continue his work of radical life change in me.

Our Father, my life requires further renovation. Work out your radical life change in me. Fill me to overflowing with your grace and goodness, your kindness and peace. Amen.

Daily D – Isaiah 6:1-7

Isaiah 6:1-7 “In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying.

And they were calling to one another:

“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty;
the whole earth is full of his glory.”

At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.

“Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty.”

Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”
