Daniel 2:14  When Arioch, the commander of the king’s guard, came to kill them, Daniel handled the situation with wisdom and discretion. (NLT)

Daniel 2:49  At Daniel’s request, the king appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to be in charge of all the affairs of the province of Babylon, while Daniel remained in the king’s court. (NLT)

Consider the loudest voices of our day. How many of them are full of wisdom and discretion?

Consider the most influential people of our day. How many of them use their platforms to open doors for others?

Daniel was a man who handled matters of life and death with wisdom and discretion. He used his prominence and significance to open doors for other leaders of wisdom and discretion.

Who do you know who maximizes influence like this?

How are you multiplying your influence to build a better world?

Jeremiah wrote a letter to the exiles in Babylon explaining how long they would be held in captivity and what to do while they were there. You know 29:11, but how familiar are you with verse 7?

“And work for the peace and prosperity of the city where I sent you into exile.
Pray to the Lord for it, for its welfare will determine your welfare.”

Daniel and his three friends did what God spoke through Jeremiah.

The cities and towns where we live should be better because we live there. How can God use you and me to build a better world? What is he doing around us, and how can we join him in his work? This is a good prayer to pray. This is a good way to live today and every day.

I will live with wisdom and discretion and use what influence I have for the benefit of others.

Our Father, open my eyes to what you are doing around me. Show me how I may join you in building a better community. Empower me to empower others. Amen.
