1 Chronicles 18:14  So David reigned over all Israel and did what was just and right for all his people. (NLT)

Politicians are ambitious individuals. Ambition is good when it is aimed in the right direction. Look for those who lead like King David. He did “what was just and right for all his people.”

Just points to what is morally right and fair.

Right points to what is morally good or acceptable.

King David did what was just and right for all his people.

Our current political parties, and the interest groups within them, are not all that interested in doing what is just and right for everyone everywhere. They quite often want Lady Justice to tilt the scales in one direction or the other. They want money without accountability to flow in particular directions. They want grace and favor for their preferred miscreants.

We can do better than this. We must do better than this.

Consider current events. Who are the men and women of character and wisdom who can help lead us out of the mess we have made? Who will do what is just and right for everyone everywhere? How can we rationalize supporting anyone who will not lead in this manner?

This is a good day to turn to 1 Timothy 2:1-4 and use it to shape our prayers. Ask God to raise up leaders who will do what is just and right for all people everywhere. Seek God’s wisdom on behalf of those leaders. Thank God for good government and good leaders. Ask God to bless us with leaders who will work toward peace and quiet, safety and dignity.

I will pray for leaders who will do what is just and right for everyone everywhere.

Our Father, please bless us with the leaders we need and not the leaders we deserve. Raise up leaders of integrity and character. Provide us with leaders we can support without fear or worry about what they will say or do. Give us leaders who will do what is right and just for all people everywhere. Amen.

Daily D – Daniel 6:1-4

Daniel 6:1-4 Darius the Mede decided to divide the kingdom into 120 provinces, and he appointed a high officer to rule over each province. The king also chose Daniel and two others as administrators to supervise the high officers and protect the king’s interests. Daniel soon proved himself more capable than all the other administrators and high officers. Because of Daniel’s great ability, the king made plans to place him over the entire empire.

Then the other administrators and high officers began searching for some fault in the way Daniel was handling government affairs, but they couldn’t find anything to criticize or condemn. He was faithful, always responsible, and completely trustworthy.

Daily D – Daniel 5:25-31

Daniel 5:25-31 “This is the message that was written: Mene, Mene, Tekel, and Parsin. This is what these words mean:

Mene means ‘numbered’—God has numbered the days of your reign and has brought it to an end.
Tekel means ‘weighed’—you have been weighed on the balances and have not measured up.
Parsin means ‘divided’—your kingdom has been divided and given to the Medes and Persians.”

Then at Belshazzar’s command, Daniel was dressed in purple robes, a gold chain was hung around his neck, and he was proclaimed the third highest ruler in the kingdom.

That very night Belshazzar, the Babylonian king, was killed.
And Darius the Mede took over the kingdom at the age of sixty-two.

Daily D – Daniel 4:36-37

Daniel 4:36, 37 “When my sanity returned to me, so did my honor and glory and kingdom. My advisers and nobles sought me out, and I was restored as head of my kingdom, with even greater honor than before.

“Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and glorify and honor the King of heaven. All his acts are just and true, and he is able to humble the proud.”

Daily D – Daniel 3:30

Daniel 3:30 Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to even higher positions in the province of Babylon.

Daily D – Daniel 2:14

Daniel 2:14 When Arioch, the commander of the king’s guard, came to kill them, Daniel handled the situation with wisdom and discretion.
