Luke 9:57-62  As they were walking along, someone said to Jesus, “I will follow you wherever you go.” But Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay his head.” He said to another person, “Come, follow me.” The man agreed, but he said, “Lord, first let me return home and bury my father.” But Jesus told him, “Let the spiritually dead bury their own dead! Your duty is to go and preach about the Kingdom of God.” Another said, “Yes, Lord, I will follow you, but first let me say good-bye to my family.” But Jesus told him, “Anyone who puts a hand to the plow and then looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God.” (NLT)

Eventually, you have to decide which way to go. A volunteer chose the easy way. An invitee settled for an indefinite delay. A recruit required a launch party. Each missed the most significant shift this world has seen so far. What separates you from the crucified, buried, and risen Jesus?

Someone tweeted this morning that we should stop confusing narcissism with charisma. Maybe all of those invitations to Be the Me I Want to Be aren’t really in my best interest. Maybe there is a bigger, better plan than puffing up my personality.

There is a better way to look at this world than what it can do for me. The better way to look at this world is by asking, “What does Jesus want for me?” Another question goes along with this one: “What does Jesus want for this world?” Properly answered, these two questions change everything for the better and the best.

Rather than setting a goal to pray each morning and telling God what we need, how about we form the habit of morning prayer with an inquiry regarding what he wants for us and for the world around us? What would be different if we danced to his tune rather than calling our own?

I will ask what God wants for me and my world morning by morning.

Our Father, what do you want for me today? What do you want for the world around me? Since whatever you want is superior to what I want for myself, I want what you want. Amen.

Daily D – Psalm 13:5-6

Psalm 13:5, 6 “But I trust in your unfailing love;
my heart rejoices in your salvation.
I will sing the LORD’s praise,
for he has been good to me.”

Daily D – Habakkuk 3:17-19

Habakkuk 3:17-19 Though the fig tree does not bud
and there are no grapes on the vines,
though the olive crop fails
and the fields produce no food,
though there are no sheep in the pen
and no cattle in the stalls,
yet I will rejoice in the LORD,
I will be joyful in God my Savior.

The Sovereign LORD is my strength;
he makes my feet like the feet of a deer,
he enables me to tread on the heights.

a refuge in times of trouble.
He cares for those who trust in him,”

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?

for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.”
