Psalm 97:11
Light dawns for the righteous, gladness for the upright in heart. (CSB)

Light shines on the godly, and joy on those whose hearts are right. (NLT)

Light-seeds are planted in the souls of God’s people, Joy-seeds are planted in good heart-soil. (MSG)

Some people brighten every room they enter. They enlighten those they meet along the way. They shine with God’s glory.

A coworker of mine was walking through Kroger one morning when someone stopped her and said, “You have been with the Lord this morning!” How often does that happen to you? I ask you because I don’t want to tell you how many (few) times that happens to me.

Eugene Peterson gifts us with a most enjoyable paraphrase of this verse in The Message:

Light-seeds are planted in the souls of God’s people,
Joy-seeds are planted in good heart-soil.

On this day of worship, ask God to plant light seeds in your soul. Ask him to plant joy seeds in your heart. Then enter this week shining with his glory and overflowing with his joy.

I will ask God for a life that shines with his glory and overflows with his joy.

Our Father, please plant in us your light seeds and joy seeds. Empower us to shine for you, to carry your gladness everywhere we go. Use us to bring your delight to an increasingly dark and unhappy world. Amen.

Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting there opposite the tomb.
