John 19:38  After this, Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus — but secretly because of his fear of the Jews — asked Pilate that he might remove Jesus’s body. Pilate gave him permission; so he came and took his body away. (CSB)

Some secrets are too big to keep.

Some secrets aren’t worth keeping once the circumstances change.

Whatever you initially think about Joseph of Arimathea’s secret discipleship, he and Nicodemus, who only visited Jesus under cover of darkness, were the only two men who dared ask Pilate for Jesus’s body and provide for a proper burial. Peter and John didn’t do that. Matthew and Mark didn’t do that.

Peter and The Boys wouldn’t have shown up on Sunday morning if several shifts of women had not interrupted them in their secret hiding place.

Joseph’s secret became unnecessary after the resurrection. Whose side would you be on? The Killer Priests or the Risen Jesus? I’m putting my money on the Resurrection and the Life.

What could the priests do now? Kick Joe out of the Temple? Who cares? In a few days, Jesus would ascend to heaven, followed by the descent of the Holy Spirit into the hearts of every person who knew and loved Jesus. Humans became the Temple of God.

Some secrets are too big to keep.

Some secrets aren’t worth keeping once a Savior is raised from the dead and lives forevermore.

Everyone knows about Joe and Jesus. I want everyone to know about Jesus and me. How about what people know about Jesus and thee? (You doesn’t rhyme.)

I will let everyone know and everyone see how I seek to display Jesus in me.

Our Father, please forgive me for too often acting like a secret disciple. May everyone see me for who you are transforming me to be and not the me I used to be. May I display obvious evidence of your gracious reshaping of my life. May I become an open secret of your kindness and goodness. Amen.

Daily D – Deuteronomy 26:16-19

Deuteronomy 26:16-19 “The Lord your God commands you this day to follow these decrees and laws; carefully observe them with all your heart and with all your soul. You have declared this day that the Lord is your God and that you will walk in obedience to him, that you will keep his decrees, commands and laws—that you will listen to him. And the Lord has declared this day that you are his people, his treasured possession as he promised, and that you are to keep all his commands. He has declared that he will set you in praise, fame and honor high above all the nations he has made and that you will be a people holy to the Lord your God, as he promised.”

Daily D – Deuteronomy 23:4-5

Deuteronomy 23:4, 5 “For they did not come to meet you with bread and water on your way when you came out of Egypt, and they hired Balaam son of Beor from Pethor in Aram Naharaim to pronounce a curse on you. However, the Lord your God would not listen to Balaam but turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the Lord your God loves you.”

Daily D – Deuteronomy 17:16-20

Deuteronomy 17:16-20 The king, moreover, must not acquire great numbers of horses for himself or make the people return to Egypt to get more of them, for the Lord has told you, “You are not to go back that way again.” He must not take many wives, or his heart will be led astray. He must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold.

When he takes the throne of his kingdom, he is to write for himself on a scroll a copy of this law, taken from that of the Levitical priests. It is to be with him, and **he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the Lord his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees and not consider himself better than his fellow Israelites and turn from the law to the right or to the left.** Then he and his descendants will reign a long time over his kingdom in Israel.

Daily D – Deuteronomy 15:7

Deuteronomy 15:7 “If anyone is poor among your fellow Israelites in any of the towns of the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward them.”

Daily D – Deuteronomy 13:4

Deuteronomy 13:4 “It is the Lord your God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him.”
