Daily D – 2 Chronicles 32:7-8

“Be strong and courageous! Don’t be afraid or discouraged before the king of Assyria or before the large army that is with him, for there are more with us than with him. He has only human strength, but we have the LORD our God to help us and to fight our battles.” So the people relied on the words of King Hezekiah of Judah.
2 CHRONICLES 32:7-8 (CSB)

Hezekiah rallied the people, saying, “Be strong! Take courage! Don’t be intimidated by the King of Assyria and his troops—there are more on our side than on their side. He only has a bunch of mere men; we have our GOD to help us and fight for us!” 
Morale surged. Hezekiah’s words put steel in their spines.

Spineless leaders are abundantly available. Few indeed are the leaders who know God, trust God, and have no other plan but to do what God says to do when and how he says to do it. Fortunately for Judah, they had such a leader in their moment of supreme crisis. 

When you read this whole story in context in 2 Kings 18 and 19, Isaiah 36 and 37, and here in 2 Chronicles 32, you see how dramatically and finally God did what only God could do. 

God’s help is still available to all who seek him, to all who trust him. Jesus said, “For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you,” (Matthew 17:20). 

Step up and lead the way. Show a little backbone. Trust God. Do what he says. Do it the way he says to do it. Do it now and always. Do not be intimidated by anyone who sets himself or herself against God’s truth or purpose. Be strong. Take courage. 

When you take courage, you encourage others. When you stand straight with God, other spines are strengthened.

Our Father, strengthen me because I am weak. Empower me to stand straight and tall so that others will be encouraged. Lead us to victory in your might. Amen.
