Daily D – Isaiah 55:8-9

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways.” This is the LORD’s declaration. “For as heaven is higher than earth, so my ways are higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
ISAIAH 55:8-9 (CSB)

There is a better way.

There is a better way to go. There are better thoughts to think. There is a better life to live.

Better is good, really good.

How do we find this better way? Look up to verses 6 and 7:

Seek the LORD while he may be found;
call to him while he is near.
Let the wicked one abandon his way
and the sinful one his thoughts;
let him return to the LORD,
so he may have compassion on him,
and to our God, for he will freely forgive.

Our Father in heaven is more interested in being found than we are in finding him. He is forever near to the one who turns his heart toward home. For the ones who realize they cannot keep on going the way they are going, he provides a new path.

For the one whose thoughts rebel at every truth and instruction from God, a turn toward God results in receiving God’s compassion and forgiveness. Why? Because he wants to be found. He wants to be known. He wants us to experience the full measure of his restoring and renewing love, mercy, and grace.

He wants us to live in his better way.

What happens when we turn our hearts toward God and receive the goodness he promises? Verse 12 helps us see the positive alternative:

You will indeed go out with joy
and be peacefully guided;
the mountains and the hills will break into singing before you,
and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.

God’s way is the way of joy, peace, singing, and rejoicing.

The Message says it this way:

“So you’ll go out in joy,
you’ll be led into a whole and complete life.
The mountains and hills will lead the parade,
bursting in song.
All the trees of the forest will join the procession,
exuberant with applause.
  • Would you rather sing than be sad?
  • Would you rather rejoice than grieve?
  • Would you rather celebrate than suffer?
  • Would you rather know peace than pain?

There is a better way.

Seek the LORD while he may be found;
call on him while he is near.

I will think God’s thoughts after him and walk in his ways.

Our Father, renew my mind that I may think your thoughts. Redirect my steps that I may walk in your ways. Lead me out with joy. Guide me with your peace. Give me songs to sing. Empower me to enjoy your abundant goodness. Amen.

Daily D – 1 Timothy 2:1-4

1 Timothy 2:1-4 “I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.”

Daily D – 2 Thessalonians 1:3

2 Thessalonians 1:3 “Dear brothers and sisters, we can’t help but thank God for you, because your faith is flourishing and your love for one another is growing.”

Daily D – 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3

1 Thessalonians 1:2, 3 “We always thank God for all of you and pray for you constantly. As we pray to our God and Father about you, we think of your faithful work, your loving deeds, and the enduring hope you have because of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Daily D – Colossians 2:8-10

Colossians 2:8-10 “Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ. For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.”

Daily D – Philippians 2:2-5

Philippians 2:2-5 Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.

Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.

You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.
