The Philistines abandoned their idols there, and David ordered that they be burned in the fire.
1 CHRONICLES 14:12 (CSB)

Never worship a god that is not fireproof.

It is springtime in Texas. That means storms. Those storms can be made up of wind, lightning, rain, hail, and tornadoes. We spent much of last evening watching the local weather teams tell us where the storms were most intense and what to expect where we live.

Earlier in the afternoon, I stopped to fill the gas tank and noticed a police officer walk slowly toward a car parked in front of the store. He was not looking for suspicious characters but was instead taking note of the nonexistent rear window of the car. Hail destroyed the window in last week’s storm.

Homes, businesses, places of worship, schools, and more often experience damage during this season. Those of us in the Fort Worth area know the precise week when we will experience strong storms. Whenever the schedule for Mayfest is announced, people can begin making preparation. Of course, last year’s event and this year’s have been canceled by a worldwide pandemic. This leads to another thought: Never worship a god that is not pandemic proof.

Fortunately for us, our Father in heaven is fireproof, stormproof, and pandemic-roof.

Check out Isaiah 43:1, 2:

Now this is what the LORD says —
the one who created you, Jacob,
and the one who formed you, Israel —
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by your name; you are mine.

When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you,
and the rivers will not overwhelm you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be scorched,
and the flame will not burn you.

Recall also Daniel 3. When those three men were tossed into the fiery furnace, God sent someone else into the flames to join them. Rather than incineration, they experienced deliverance. When the king called out the three men he had ordered thrown into the flame, and not the other individual with them, he and his court noticed there was no singe, no smell of smoke, nothing.

Worship only our fireproof Father in heaven. Worship only the One who “soars on the wings of the wind,” (Psalm 18:10). Create a suitable bonfire with anything else.

I will worship our fireproof, stormproof, pandemic-proof God.

Our Father, thank you that fire and flood and pandemic do not threaten you. Thank you that we can depend on you no matter how hot the fire, how dangerous the storm, or how widespread the pandemic. No matter how much damage these can do, they will never separate us from your love (Romans 8:28-39). Amen.

Daily D – Psalm 74:16-17

Psalm 74:16, 17
“The day is yours, and yours also the night;
you established the sun and moon.
It was you who set all the boundaries of the earth;
you made both summer and winter.

Daily D – Judges 10:11-14

Judges 10:11-14 The LORD replied, “When the Egyptians, the Amorites, the Ammonites, the Philistines, the Sidonians, the Amalekites and the Maonites oppressed you and you cried to me for help, did I not save you from their hands? But you have forsaken me and served other gods, so I will no longer save you. Go and cry out to the gods you have chosen. Let them save you when you are in trouble!”

Daily D – Judges 6:7-10

Judges 6:7-10 When the Israelites cried out to the LORD because of Midian, he sent them a prophet, who said, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: I brought you up out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. I rescued you from the hand of the Egyptians. And I delivered you from the hand of all your oppressors; I drove them out before you and gave you their land. I said to you, ‘I am the LORD your God; do not worship the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you live.’ But you have not listened to me.”

Daily D – Judges 4:4

Judges 4:4 Now Deborah, a prophet, the wife of Lappidoth, was leading Israel at that time.

Daily D – Judges 2:8-10

Judges 2:8-10 Joshua son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died at the age of a hundred and ten. And they buried him in the land of his inheritance, at Timnath Heres in the hill country of Ephraim, north of Mount Gaash. After that whole generation had been gathered to their ancestors, another generation grew up who knew neither the Lord nor what he had done for Israel.
