Daily D – Psalm 113:3

From the rising of the sun to its setting, let the name of the LORD be praised.
PSALM 113:3 (CSB)

Benjamin Franklin said, “Sloth makes all things difficult, but industry, all things easy. He that rises late must trot all day, and shall scarce overtake his business at night, while laziness travels so slowly that poverty soon overtakes him.”

Snow White taught us how to whistle while we work. Her song includes these words:

When hearts are high the time will fly
So whistle while you work

The industrious among us know that all-day work requires all-day songs and tunes. Each of us carries a soundtrack around inside our heads. AirPods and earbuds are not necessary for most folks.

Each day sings its own song. Today’s playlist will include for me songs of reminiscing and future hopes. I will review the week and gauge its successes and setbacks in the storylines of my life. I will peer into the planned events for the week ahead and adjust my preparation toward proper execution.

Today is the day our staff cleans our building. As the Master of the Mop, I will whistle two songs while I work. The first is an old Sandi Patti song. I’ll Give You Peace. (https://bit.ly/3eFNmmn)

The second is one that never ceases to make me smile. It is from The Wizard of Oz: If I Only Had a Brain. (https://bit.ly/32GlBnT) I used to think in my younger years that one day I would not have to engage in physical labor like I did on the farm or on a carpenter’s crew or driving a truck for Frito-Lay. Here I am a big-time executive and one of my jobs is mopping the bathrooms. And I am good at it!

My days go best when songs of praise fill my heart, mind, and mouth. Whoever wrote this psalm apparently felt the same way. Praise is our purpose all day every day. And why not? Indeed, how could we not? Look at verses 4-6:

The LORD is exalted above all the nations,
his glory above the heavens.
Who is like the LORD our God—
the one enthroned on high,
who stoops down to look on the heavens and the earth?

Even our all-glorious God stoops to mop up the messes, to help, to heal, to raise up. Again, how could we not sing his praises? How could we not follow his example? How could we not join him in his work?

What songs will you sing today?

I will sing God’s praises all day.

Our Father, your praise will ever be on my lips. Amen.

Daily D – Isaiah 6:1-7

Isaiah 6:1-7 “In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying.

And they were calling to one another:

“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty;
the whole earth is full of his glory.”

At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.

“Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty.”

Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”
