1 Kings 20:11  The king of Israel answered, “Tell him: ‘One who puts on his armor should not boast like one who takes it off.’ ” (NIV)

Boastful blowhards quite often beat themselves.

Ben-Hadad became Ben-the-Has-Been after his big bold boast.

Ahab was no choir boy singing God’s praises. He was about as bad as they come. Yet God loved him enough to give him one chance after another to turn his heart toward heaven.

“When Ahab heard these words, he tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and fasted. He lay in sackcloth and went around meekly.
Then the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite: “Have you noticed how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has humbled himself, I will not bring this disaster in his day, but I will bring it on his house in the days of his son.”
(‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭21‬:‭27‬-‭29‬ ‭NIV‬‬)

Humbling yourself before God is always a good idea. He is God. You are not.

Going your own way is always an option. It’s the wrong option. This makes every choice easy, doesn’t it? God always does what is right, so let’s do things God’s way. God always seeks our highest and best and his highest and best for others, so why would we choose any other way?

These are good lessons.
1. Don’t get too big for your britches.
2. Humble yourself before God.
3. Follow His directions.
4. Trust Him from the bottom of your heart.

If we can manage to do those four things today, it’s going to be a pretty good day.

I will humble myself before God and follow His directions, fully trusting his love, kindness, and wisdom.

Our Father, you are God, and I am not. I know this full well. Give me your clear direction today along with a willing and obedient heart to go that way. You are perfectly trustworthy. You seek my highest and best. You want to use me to help others see how good and kind you are. Here I am. Send me. Amen.

Daily D – 1 Kings 11:1-3

1 Kings 11:1-3 King Solomon, however, loved many foreign women besides Pharaoh’s daughter—Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians and Hittites. They were from nations about which the Lord had told the Israelites, “You must not intermarry with them, because they will surely turn your hearts after their gods.” Nevertheless, Solomon held fast to them in love. He had seven hundred wives of royal birth and three hundred concubines, and his wives led him astray.

Daily D – 1 Kings 10:1

1 Kings 10:1 When the queen of Sheba heard about the fame of Solomon and his relationship to the LORD, she came to test Solomon with hard questions.
