Daily D – Psalm 71:16-18
Psalm 71:16-18
I will come and proclaim your mighty acts, Sovereign LORD;
I will proclaim your righteous deeds, yours alone.
Since my youth, God, you have taught me,
and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds.
Even when I am old and gray,
do not forsake me, my God,
till I declare your power to the next generation,
your mighty acts to all who are to come. (NIV)

Our staff started a podcast recently. Next week, the first episode will debut on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
I know what you’re thinking: Aren’t there enough podcasts already?
One of the great things about our team is the wonderful variety of outstanding people we get to work with here at our home base and around the world. They have stories worth telling. They have good news worth hearing.
Our first guest is Dr. Michael Evans. Dr. Evans is the long-time pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Mansfield, Texas. Dr. Evans also served on the Mansfield Independent School District Board of Directors, which he led as president. He currently serves as mayor of the City of Mansfield.
Dr. Evans has a story of God’s mighty hand at work in bringing down walls of racism—literal walls—and opening up new avenues of opportunity—literal avenues—where, until recently, prosperity ended, and poverty began.
Dr. Evans is focusing his leadership on raising up the next generation of men and women who will have stories to tell of God’s mighty acts.
We also talked to Pastor Doug Walker. He started a church a generation ago that now meets on five different campuses with a sixth in the planning stages. Doug’s life has been anything but easy, everything but fruitless. His deep passion for those emerging as leaders today is evident in everything he says and does.
We talked to Dr. Rebekah Naylor. She grew up in Fort Worth and gave her life to Jesus at an early age. Her father was the pastor of Travis Avenue Baptist Church and then the president of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. She felt a call to missions as a thirteen-year-old and served for a generation as a medical missionary in India.
Out of the hospital she built grew dozens of churches. Now in retirement, she regularly returns to India to serve in what she calls her Happy Place. She also leads Mercy Clinic, which is located on the property of Travis Avenue Baptist Church. The clinic provides a range of medical and dental services to those who cannot access them elsewhere.
The podcast is called Catch the Current. Our two-word summary of our association’s mission is Catalyzing Movement. We want to join God in what he is doing among us and around us so that these movements experience acceleration and provide illumination that transforms lives, families, communities, and nations.
President George Herbert Walker Bush talked about “a thousand points of light.” It’s good to see and recognize these points of light. The light glows all the more brilliantly when we connect them. Light bearers linked together drive back the darkness.
What is God doing around you? How can you join this movement? How can you connect others? What does this make possible? Or, better yet, what impossibilities are overcome when God’s light shines upon them?
—
I will catch the current.
—
Our Father, here’s my little light. I will let it shine. I will also join other light bearers, and together we will shine even more brightly. By your grace and mercy, and in your strength, we will join what you are doing to push back the darkness. May our thousand points of light create a bonfire of hope for the whole world. Amen.
