Esther 3:5  When Haman saw that Mordecai would not bow down or show him respect, he was filled with rage. (NLT)

Respect that is demanded and enforced is most often delivered grudgingly. Grudging respect devolves into disrespect. Rage is often reciprocal.

Self-importance is seldom positively influential. Pushy people shove. Pushed people shove back.

Hit me once, and I’ll hit you twice.

These are the games people play. Television would go out of business without them.

There is a better way.

The Apostle Paul declares the better way in Ephesians 4:31 and 32.

Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

Take out the garbage. Bring in nourishment for our souls. Kindness counts. Tender hearts overflow with grace. Forgiveness unties knots and removes barriers.

I will take God’s positive alternative to disrespect and rage.

Our Father, make my heart like yours. Fill me full to overflowing with your kindness, tenderheartedness, and forgiveness. Use me to untie knots and to remove barriers. Use me to apply grace to hurts. May everyone anticipate kindness from me. Make me an example of a positive alternative to the rage of our days. Amen.

1 Kings 2:1-4 When the time drew near for David to die, he gave a charge to Solomon his son.
“I am about to go the way of all the earth,” he said. “So be strong, act like a man, and observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go and that the Lord may keep his promise to me: ‘If your descendants watch how they live, and if they walk faithfully before me with all their heart and soul, you will never fail to have a successor on the throne of Israel.’”
