Daily D – Proverbs 30:5-6
Proverbs 30:5, 6
Every word of God proves true.
He is a shield to all who come to him for protection.
Do not add to his words,
or he may rebuke you and expose you as a liar. (NLT)
The believer replied, “Every promise of God proves true;
he protects everyone who runs to him for help.
So don’t second-guess him;
he might take you to task and show up your lies.” (MSG)

God has his critics. They often complain about what they do not fully understand. While we may point out a thing or two that, to our minds, just doesn’t jibe, he could point out an entire lifetime worth of our failings to humiliate us should he participate in our game of Tit-for-Tat.
(Did you know jibe is a nautical term for moving sails from one side to the other? Me neither.)
Every word of God proves true. You may not see it today, tomorrow, or during your lifetime, but God’s word stands the test of time. (See Proverbs 12:19.) It always has. It always will.
God’s gift of words of truth and life is far more dependable than even the most dependable person you and I know. They are trustworthy and true, just like God himself. We can waste time trying to point out what we see as exceptions and failures, but we miss the rock-solid dependability of the plain meaning of his properly understood and applied truths.
You and I are neither one smarter than God. Neither of us has the depth of knowledge, the width of wisdom, or the intellectual capacity to shame God. We always and forever come up short in comparison.
Since God is trustworthy and true, loyal in his love, and faithful in his administration of grace, why don’t we stop kicking at the goads and start leaning into his goodness, kindness, and compassion? Why don’t we join him in trustworthy ways?
You and I can join God and become part of the solution to the chronic problems of our age. Taking God’s instructions to heart leads us along pathways of help and healing, hope and encouragement. We can distribute smiles and release laughter. Joy can be our calling card.
Lay down the demand that God explain himself and trust him from the bottom of your heart. (See Proverbs 3:5, 6.) Those who live like this bang out the dents of life. They liberate those imprisoned by hurtful habits. They become the very aroma of Christ in a world that often smells like manure and garbage. (See 2 Corinthians 2:15-17.)
—
I will trust God from the bottom of my heart.
—
Our Father, you are trustworthy and true. Your loyal love and faithfulness draw us into your amazing grace. Make us your ambassadors of peace and grace. (See 2 Corinthians 5:18-21.) Use us to beautify the earth and its inhabitants with the good news of reconciliation. Amen.
