1 Corinthians 2:16  For who has known the Lord’s mind, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. (CSB)

This verse begins by quoting Isaiah 40:13: “For who has known the Lord’s mind, that he may instruct him?” Paul will continue this line of thought in 3:18-23. He wraps up his thoughts in this chapter by saying, “But we have the mind of Christ.”

What does this mean?

First, it does not mean we understand all of Jesus’ thoughts. Second, it means that when the Spirit of God lives in us, we begin seeing the world as Jesus does. We evaluate things as Jesus does. We respond to things as Jesus does.

It is deeply beneficial to read from Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John daily. We need to see Jesus at work. We need to watch how he related to every person he encountered. We need to hear the questions he asked. We need to ponder what moved his heart, impressed him, and made him angry.

We need to see people the way he did. Most of the time, he saw people for who they could be instead of who they were. He saw what sight would mean to the blind, what food would mean to the hungry, what the ability to walk and to work would mean to the lame, what hearing would mean to the deaf.

He saw the end result of Peter’s name change, Judas’s betrayal, and John’s tender heart.

What do we see when we meet people along the way? What do we see when family, friends, coworkers, and others stand before us day by day?

What do we think about current events and big issues?

What if we thought like Jesus? What if we asked Jesus to shape our thoughts?

The transformation Jesus works in us renews our minds “so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.” The mind of Christ at work within us leads us into that which is good, pleasing, and the perfect will of God.

These are thoughts worth thinking.

I will ask for ever more of the mind of Christ.

Our Father, empower me to think your thoughts after you. Give me the mind of Christ. Empower me to see as you see, to understand as you understand, and to do what Jesus did as he lived a perfectly unhurried and purposeful life. Amen.
