Isaiah 41:10  Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with my righteous right hand.

Isaiah 41:10
Don’t panic. I’m with you.
There’s no need to fear for I’m your God.
I’ll give you strength. I’ll help you.
I’ll hold you steady, keep a firm grip on you.
(The Message)

Max Lucado has a book with a title I love. I like it so much that I include it in my daily prayers. The book is entitled In the Grip of Grace. When I read these words in Isaiah, that imagery comes to mind.

What is going on in your world today? This week? Glancing at my calendar this morning, I see that my father has his second eye surgery today. Our son has his second shoulder surgery on Wednesday. I am supposed to lead training on Thursday. My coworker Becky and my friends John and Gerry will take my place. I will sit in on some preparation for other training I will lead in the next few weeks.

Those are the things I can see. There is more that I cannot. How about you?

The recovery from my recent surgery lolls along. A low-grade fever persists. Energy levels remain far below normal capacity. Sometimes I am too tired to read. This is an extreme experience for yours truly.

Joshua 1:9 and Isaiah 41:10 remind us that we are never alone. They encourage us with the truth that we are never out of God’s care. These truths echo throughout the Bible in every kind of literature. God tells us again and again two powerful truths: He is in charge, and we belong to him. Jesus says in John 10:28, “I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one will snatch them out of my hand.”

It is always too early to panic.
It is always too soon to be paralyzed by fear.
It is always time to trust God to take care of whatever we face.
It is always good to live in the grip of his grace.

I will live in the grip of God’s grace.

Our Father, we belong to you. You hold us in the grip of your grace. Therefore, we do not have to yield to fear. There is nothing you will lead us to that you will not lead us through. This is why we give you our praise and thanksgiving. This is why we can look forward in faith. This is why we can trust you with every moment and every eventuality. Amen.

Daily D – Deuteronomy 26:16-19

Deuteronomy 26:16-19 “The Lord your God commands you this day to follow these decrees and laws; carefully observe them with all your heart and with all your soul. You have declared this day that the Lord is your God and that you will walk in obedience to him, that you will keep his decrees, commands and laws—that you will listen to him. And the Lord has declared this day that you are his people, his treasured possession as he promised, and that you are to keep all his commands. He has declared that he will set you in praise, fame and honor high above all the nations he has made and that you will be a people holy to the Lord your God, as he promised.”

Daily D – Deuteronomy 23:4-5

Deuteronomy 23:4, 5 “For they did not come to meet you with bread and water on your way when you came out of Egypt, and they hired Balaam son of Beor from Pethor in Aram Naharaim to pronounce a curse on you. However, the Lord your God would not listen to Balaam but turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the Lord your God loves you.”

Daily D – Deuteronomy 17:16-20

Deuteronomy 17:16-20 The king, moreover, must not acquire great numbers of horses for himself or make the people return to Egypt to get more of them, for the Lord has told you, “You are not to go back that way again.” He must not take many wives, or his heart will be led astray. He must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold.

When he takes the throne of his kingdom, he is to write for himself on a scroll a copy of this law, taken from that of the Levitical priests. It is to be with him, and **he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the Lord his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees and not consider himself better than his fellow Israelites and turn from the law to the right or to the left.** Then he and his descendants will reign a long time over his kingdom in Israel.

Daily D – Deuteronomy 15:7

Deuteronomy 15:7 “If anyone is poor among your fellow Israelites in any of the towns of the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward them.”

Daily D – Deuteronomy 13:4

Deuteronomy 13:4 “It is the Lord your God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him.”
