Psalm 27:7, 8
“Lord, hear my voice when I call;
be gracious to me and answer me.
My heart says this about you:
“Seek his face.”
Lord, I will seek your face.” (CSB)

Yesterday was one of the longest days of my life. We arose before 4 AM for a trip west to the ocean. We had adventures aplenty at the airport followed by a smooth flight, a pleasant drive, and a raucous arrival at our destination.

After a pleasant meal with live music and joyful staff, it was at long last time for bed. It didn’t matter that it was eight o’clock local time. Of course, that also means I couldn’t sleep past 4:30 this morning. There is a nap on the schedule later today.

Sitting around the pool this morning, with only a feral, and hungry, cat to keep me company, I read these words. The moon and stars gave way to the rising sun. His awakening was luxurious and lovely. You might even call it dramatic.

These words remind me of Earth Maker, Star Hanger, Moon Placer, Our Father in Heaven. Sometimes all of creation speaks at once reminding us to seek his face. The waves roll in and whisper across the sand, “Seek his face.”

The breeze carries soft remembrances of other times when he was seemingly more present than before. The awakening of the symphony of the sea, sand, and gentle morning moments remind me God has more than one flavor, more than one characteristic, more than one manner of declaring his love and purpose to those he has chosen.

And so, I will seek his face. From what I’ve seen so far today, it bears the most beautiful smile.

I will seek his face.

Our Father, I will seek your face. Your majesty is etched on every beautiful thing I see. Your grace is felt in every moment of kindness. I will look for you all day long. I am reminded how those who seek you, find you. There is life. There is love. There is beauty and wonder. Amen.

Our Father, I again come to you with my namesake’s prayer. Thank you for leading him not only to pray, but to preserve his prayers to teach us how to pray. And so I pray, “Test me, Lord, and try me; examine my heart and mind. For your faithful love guides me, and I live by your truth.” Amen.

Daily D – Deuteronomy 26:16-19

Deuteronomy 26:16-19 “The Lord your God commands you this day to follow these decrees and laws; carefully observe them with all your heart and with all your soul. You have declared this day that the Lord is your God and that you will walk in obedience to him, that you will keep his decrees, commands and laws—that you will listen to him. And the Lord has declared this day that you are his people, his treasured possession as he promised, and that you are to keep all his commands. He has declared that he will set you in praise, fame and honor high above all the nations he has made and that you will be a people holy to the Lord your God, as he promised.”

Daily D – Deuteronomy 23:4-5

Deuteronomy 23:4, 5 “For they did not come to meet you with bread and water on your way when you came out of Egypt, and they hired Balaam son of Beor from Pethor in Aram Naharaim to pronounce a curse on you. However, the Lord your God would not listen to Balaam but turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the Lord your God loves you.”

Daily D – Deuteronomy 17:16-20

Deuteronomy 17:16-20 The king, moreover, must not acquire great numbers of horses for himself or make the people return to Egypt to get more of them, for the Lord has told you, “You are not to go back that way again.” He must not take many wives, or his heart will be led astray. He must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold.

When he takes the throne of his kingdom, he is to write for himself on a scroll a copy of this law, taken from that of the Levitical priests. It is to be with him, and **he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the Lord his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees and not consider himself better than his fellow Israelites and turn from the law to the right or to the left.** Then he and his descendants will reign a long time over his kingdom in Israel.

Daily D – Deuteronomy 15:7

Deuteronomy 15:7 “If anyone is poor among your fellow Israelites in any of the towns of the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward them.”

Daily D – Deuteronomy 13:4

Deuteronomy 13:4 “It is the Lord your God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him.”
