Isaiah 66:2
“But there is something I’m looking for:
a person simple and plain,
reverently responsive to what I say.”
(The Message)

It’s Monday. Again. Mondays often feel like letdowns after the self-determined activities of the weekend. How can we add a bit of energy and anticipation to Mondays? We can realize God is looking for people just like us. He wants to enrich the lives of those who are “simple and plain, reverently responsive” to him.

Ostentatious pretension is not what God enjoys in a person. He prefers when we live and worship simply, plainly, and reverently responsive to his guidance.

Let the workweek begin with the satisfaction of knowing we don’t have to impress God with acts of derring-do. Instead, we can seek his heart and mind in our daily Bible reading. We can live what we say we believe. We can become salt and light wherever we go. We can listen for his voice as he guides our steps, our thoughts, and our simple service in his name.

If you need a motto to get through Monday and on into this week, Reverently Responsive is a pretty good choice. It reminds us of what God is looking for in people like us. It directs us toward productive and helpful service. It teaches us to keep life simple and straightforward.

This could be the best Monday ever, or at least in a long time.

I will live a Reverently Responsive life.

Our Father, empower us to live simple and plain, reverently responsive lives. Amen.

2 Peter 1:5-8 For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with goodness, goodness with knowledge, knowledge with self-control, self-control with endurance, endurance with godliness, godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being useless or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Daily D – Romans 12:18

Romans 12:18 If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

You will keep the mind that is dependent on you in perfect peace,
for it is trusting in you.
Trust in the LORD forever,
because in the LORD, the LORD himself,
is an everlasting rock!

Daily D – James 4:6

James 4:6 But he gives greater grace. Therefore he says: God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.
