Exodus 13:19  Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, because Joseph had made the Israelites swear a solemn oath, saying, “God will certainly come to your aid; then you must take my bones with you from this place.” (CSB)

Joseph’s final dream was coming true. It would still be forty years before the final period was placed on his story at his burial. Even so, his old bones were on the way home.

Some dreams are fulfilled quickly. Some take a little longer. God-sized, God-given dreams may even take longer than our lifetimes to complete.

Joseph’s early dreams were all about himself as he and others understood them. His final dreams were all about others. This is one of the ways you know your dreams are God Dreams. His dreams endure longer than our lives. They extend God’s goodness and grace for generations.

God’s dreams for you are truly transformative. Little Joe and Old Joe are the same person with the same relatives but with very different worldviews and God views. Take a look back at your own journey. Remember your teenage imaginings. Those ideas were so unformed and unfinished. Yet there was a stirring of greatness and goodness then.

Assess your current life. What does where you are now make possible? What could God do with you, what does he want to do with you, to help people now and in the future know and experience him? Daily living in God’s presence and communion expands our understanding of his purpose in these moments and will amplify his grace for longer than we will live.

I have an acquaintance who has led well for decades. He is in his eighties now and is as fruitful and effective, perhaps even more so, than at any other time in his life. He is preserving his life work in such a manner and with such a plan that people a hundred years from now will still be shaped by what God did in him and through him.

What’s your plan for the first hundred years after you die?

Joseph has been dead and gone for thousands of years, and yet his story still bears fruit in our lives. God gives no small dreams.

God has a plan for your life that will outlive your life even if nobody knows the details or tells your story. Here are some simple prayers to help you understand what God wants for you:

* How do you want to use my life to declare your glory and goodness?
* What do you want me to do day by day to know you and experience you and to help others do the same?
* How can I live the kind of life that continues its good effect long after I am dead and gone?
* What needs to move to the forefront of my thoughts and plans?

God’s answers to these questions most likely will not come quickly. They will come in God’s perfect timing and with the required resources.

Live a life bigger than your life by dreaming with God and developing that dream all the days of your life.

I will develop the dream God has placed in my heart.

Our Father, thank you for your dreams for me are bigger and better than my dreams for myself. Thank you for how you can make us fruitful and effective beyond our lifetimes. What do I need to know today? How can I honor you in the moments before me? How will you use what you are doing now to extend beyond my lifetime? Amen.

Daily D – Deuteronomy 30:19-20

Deuteronomy 30:19, 20 “This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the LORD is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.”

Daily D – Deuteronomy 29:29

Deuteronomy 29:29 “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.”

Daily D – Deuteronomy 26:16-19

Deuteronomy 26:16-19 “The Lord your God commands you this day to follow these decrees and laws; carefully observe them with all your heart and with all your soul. You have declared this day that the Lord is your God and that you will walk in obedience to him, that you will keep his decrees, commands and laws—that you will listen to him. And the Lord has declared this day that you are his people, his treasured possession as he promised, and that you are to keep all his commands. He has declared that he will set you in praise, fame and honor high above all the nations he has made and that you will be a people holy to the Lord your God, as he promised.”

Daily D – Deuteronomy 23:4-5

Deuteronomy 23:4, 5 “For they did not come to meet you with bread and water on your way when you came out of Egypt, and they hired Balaam son of Beor from Pethor in Aram Naharaim to pronounce a curse on you. However, the Lord your God would not listen to Balaam but turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the Lord your God loves you.”

Daily D – Deuteronomy 17:16-20

Deuteronomy 17:16-20 The king, moreover, must not acquire great numbers of horses for himself or make the people return to Egypt to get more of them, for the Lord has told you, “You are not to go back that way again.” He must not take many wives, or his heart will be led astray. He must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold.

When he takes the throne of his kingdom, he is to write for himself on a scroll a copy of this law, taken from that of the Levitical priests. It is to be with him, and **he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the Lord his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees and not consider himself better than his fellow Israelites and turn from the law to the right or to the left.** Then he and his descendants will reign a long time over his kingdom in Israel.
