Daily D – Luke 5:37-39
Luke 5:37-39 “And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. For the new wine would burst the wineskins, spilling the wine and ruining the skins. New wine must be stored in new wineskins. But no one who drinks the old wine seems to want the new wine. ‘The old is just fine,’ they say.” (NLT)

Yesterday’s innovators are often opposed to today’s innovations.
Each generation feels compelled to correct the prior generation.
The truth is, truth is not easily compressed into any particular innovative method or traditional practice. Truth is truth. Innovative methods and traditional practices alike must bow before truth and not the other way around.
Most of us lean toward innovation in some matters, tradition in others. What would be different if we confessed our preferences and biases and made way for more truth? What if truth shaped our lives more than affiliation?
These are worthy points to ponder.
Listen to Jesus. Give close attention to what he challenged and what he embraced. Notice what he transformed. Hold preferences, biases, innovations, and traditions loosely. Cling firmly to the truth, and never forget what Jesus said in John 14:6: “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one can come to the Father except through me.”
Truth liberates. Truth opens the door. Truth leads us where we most want to go. Tradition and innovation cannot make the same claim.

I will seek the Truth and allow him to shape my view of tradition, innovation, and all reality.

Our Father, please forgive us for placing so much emphasis on our preferences and biases instead of Truth. Forgive us for settling for the way things have always been. Forgive us for trusting new things to do more than they can. Teach us, grow us, and shape us by your Truth. Amen.
