Psalm 146:3-6  Don’t put your confidence in powerful people; there is no help for you there. When they breathe their last, they return to the earth, and all their plans die with them. But joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper, whose hope is in the Lord their God. He made heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them. He keeps every promise forever. (NLT)

“Don’t put your confidence in powerful people; there is no help for you there.”

I have tweeted on numerous occasions across the years, “Politics is not ultimate reality.” I may have just done it again. As we are well into another presidential election cycle and all that goes with it, let us fondly recall who is really in charge here.

It would be wise to vote for people who understand they are not the big dogs they pretend to be. It would be wise to remember that dogs carry fleas.

Instead of placing undue measures of faith in a politician or two who will immediately have half the country resisting him or her, trust God who made the world and everything in it.

Instead of trusting imperfect people to accomplish more than their character will bear, trust God who keeps every promise forever.

Joyful lives focus on ultimate reality, not political parties.

Joyful lives focus on who determines ultimate outcomes and not those who will grab the reins of power for the next few years.

When the news media focuses more and more on powerful people attempting to become even more powerful, focus instead on God whose power never wanes, whose promises never fail, and who holds our ultimtate destiny in his hands.

These are powerful thoughts to move us forward into a week where we get to display what we believe and who we trust in every decision we make.

I will trust God who made heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them, who keeps every promise forever.

Our Father, you made it all. You own it all. You have the final say about it all. How now shall we live in light of these truths? Empower us to live what we say we believe today and in the week ahead. Amen.

Daily D – Job 8:2-7

Job 8:2-7
“How long will you go on like this?
You sound like a blustering wind.
Does God twist justice?
Does the Almighty twist what is right?
Your children must have sinned against him,
so their punishment was well deserved.
But if you pray to God
and seek the favor of the Almighty,
and if you are pure and live with integrity,
he will surely rise up and restore your happy home.
And though you started with little,
you will end with much.”

Daily D – Job 1:9-11

Job 1:9-11 Satan replied to the LORD, “Yes, but Job has good reason to fear God. You have always put a wall of protection around him and his home and his property. You have made him prosper in everything he does. Look how rich he is! But reach out and take away everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face!”

Daily D – Psalm 145:17

Psalm 145:17
The Lord is righteous in everything he does;
he is filled with kindness.

Daily D – Psalm 139:1-6

Psalm 139:1-6
O LORD, you have examined my heart
and know everything about me.
You know when I sit down or stand up.
You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.
You see me when I travel
and when I rest at home.
You know everything I do.
You know what I am going to say
even before I say it, LORD.
You go before me and follow me.
You place your hand of blessing on my head.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too great for me to understand!

Daily D – Psalm 130

Psalm 130
From the depths of despair, O LORD,
I call for your help.
Hear my cry, O Lord.
Pay attention to my prayer.
