Luke 12:13-15  Then someone called from the crowd, “Teacher, please tell my brother to divide our father’s estate with me.” Jesus replied, “Friend, who made me a judge over you to decide such things as that?” Then he said, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.” (NLT)

Jesus is not my personal problem solver. He is not Judge Judy. This is not The People’s Court.

Jesus is not interested in settling your scores. He’s not your muscle who roughs up people until they see things your way.

Until we see Jesus for who he is, we will be tempted to use him as a good-luck charm. We will wear crosses for the same reason some people carry rabbit’s feet and four-leaf clovers.

Greed grasps. Jesus gives.

Greed controls. Jesus releases.

Greed clings and clutches. Jesus embraces and empowers.

Jesus is more interested in people than possessions. People endure forever. Diamonds, contrary to the advertising slogan, do not.

Consider the man in the crowd who shouted at Jesus seeking his intervention and the man’s brother who apparently held the lion’s share of the inheritance. All of those possessions are long gone and untraceable. Those two men will exist forever.

Jesus doesn’t have scores to settle; He has people to save.

I will see the people behind the problems and seek their salvation and restoration.

Our Father, please drive greed out of my heart. Keep my focus on people, not possessions. Empower me to seek everyone’s highest and best. Protect me from the distraction of all those things which will not endure forever. Amen.

Daily D – 1 Timothy 2:1-4

1 Timothy 2:1-4 “I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.”

Daily D – 2 Thessalonians 1:3

2 Thessalonians 1:3 “Dear brothers and sisters, we can’t help but thank God for you, because your faith is flourishing and your love for one another is growing.”

Daily D – 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3

1 Thessalonians 1:2, 3 “We always thank God for all of you and pray for you constantly. As we pray to our God and Father about you, we think of your faithful work, your loving deeds, and the enduring hope you have because of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Daily D – Colossians 2:8-10

Colossians 2:8-10 “Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ. For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.”

Daily D – Philippians 2:2-5

Philippians 2:2-5 Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.

Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.

You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.
