Psalm 85:8  “I listen carefully to what God the LORD is saying, for he speaks peace to his faithful people. But let them not return to their foolish ways.” (NLT)

—

God wants peace with us more than we want peace with him. He wants peace for us and provides the well-lighted path into that blessed state of being.

The songwriter teaches how to experience peace with God and the peace of God in all circumstances. First, he says, “I listen carefully to what the LORD is saying, for he speaks peace to his faithful people.”

We hear God’s voice most clearly through the Bible. Establishing a daily Bible reading habit leads to a more peaceful life.

Second, he says, “But let them not return to their foolish ways.”

It doesn’t take a great deal of thought to see some of our foolish moments in the proper light. It’s pretty easy to see what we should have done differently. Having learned those lessons and gained that perspective, let’s not go down that road again.

God’s words are truth and life. God’s ways are peaceful and pleasant.

—

I will listen to God, do what he says, and live a peaceful life.

—

Our Father, give me ears to hear what you are saying to me today. Give me a willing and obedient heart to follow where you lead. Empower me to live a peaceful life and to carry your peace into every conversation and situation. Amen.
